2 players that should be playing in the majors

OMG, I can’t believe I just said I want Colon on our rotation…

You guys play the Yankees

You don’t want Colon in your rotation. I promise.

Northeastern University Huskies: Mediocre hockey, guaranteed.

Eh.

Colon will give us some quality innings. I’m not too concerned that prior to arm surgery he lost a couple of blow-outs to a last place team.

By the way

This is scary. These guys will be sticking around for a long time. I’m sure they’ll hit some speedbumps, but they’re a hell of a team.

Tell me about it

I was hoping that Kazmir would sign anywhere in the NL.

Call me perverse

but I want to see more competition, not less. So it’s great that the Rays are shaping up as a contending team.

AL East: Mutally Assured Destruction for the next five years. Should be fun.

You're perverse.

But seriously, you've got a point.

Though, I wonder just how well the old guys (us and the Yanks) will be able to keep up with the young kids (the Rays).

If they can turn one of their remaining SP prospects into a closer relief ace, there may be no stopping them. This might be somewhat conceited, but it’ll be kind of like when the son (or daughter) finally gets to the point of consistently beating their parents at something. There’s pride, bitterness, energy, shame, awkwardness…the list goes on.

In other words, bring it the f on.

Rays

Did the Devil Rays finally succeed in ousting that loser of an owner they had?

Here are the players signed to long-term deals:

Carl Crawford: LF, 4th year of 6-year, $31M deal
Evan Longoria: 3B, 1st year of 9-year, $44.5M deal
James Shields: RHP, 1st year of 7-year, $44M deal
Scott Kazmir: LHP, 4-year, $39.5M starts in 2009
Carlos Pena: 1B, 1st year of 3-year, $24.125M deal
Dan Wheeler: RHP, 1st year of 4-year, $13.5M deal

I think Longoria was a year or two premature, but they did lock him up for a long time. Too long, probably. I’m sure they’ll need to make adjustments along the way. Shields is an excellent value signing.

They need to lock up B.J. Upton.

Oh, and give Colon one more start in the Bucket

and bring him up. At worst he could be in the pen, getting a ton of strikeouts and eating innings. At best, he’s potentially a middle of the rotation starter. Don’t underestimate his talent.

Thats a thought

Though, I see him being a middle relief man 2-3 innings to start with a nice move to the rotation after the All-Star break. We’ve all seen what he can do, and I feel that we’ll see that again. Especially since he is on a legitimate team, all the more reason to perform above all others expectations.

I must say though this slump has really got me down here this week, damn where is the middle relief when you need to count on it?

by AJCOTE on May 16, 2008 10:06 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Slump ends later today, my friend.

Never fear.

And you make some very good points about Colon.
