OT: Red Sox (3-2) @ Blue Jays (2-2)
Boston @ Toronto
Here's an open thread -- on time!
Today is Clay Buchholz's 2008 debut. Although he struggled in spring training, we all know the regular season is always different. We can't expect a no-hitter (let's keep it realistic) but there's no reason we can't expect a well-pitched game out of him. It'll be interesting to see how he responds to Bartolo Colon's strong outing in Pawtucket. He must feel Colon on his heels by now, but he could lose him with a good game today.
For the Jays it's another youngster, Jesse Litsch. Litsch started 20 games for the Jays last year and racked up a nifty (It's Don Orsillo season! Nifty is the word!) 3.81 earned run average. Litsch went 2-1 last season in 3 starts against the Red Sox.
Interesting lineup for the Sox today. Julio Lugo leads off, while Sean Casey spells Kevin Youkilis, and Coco Crisp is today's center fielder. Who knows what Francona is thinking:
RED SOX:
SS Lugo
2B Pedroia
DH Ortiz
LF Ramirez
3B Lowell
RF Drew
C Varitek
1B Casey
CF CrispBLUE JAYS:
SS Eckstein
LF Stairs
RF Rios
CF Wells
DH Thomas
1B Overbay
2B Hill
3B Scutaro
C Zaun

Jerry and Don breaking down who gets demoted for Beckett tomorrow: Lopez, Aardsma, Corey or Tavarez? I say..
Keep Aardsma!
by Randy Booth on Apr 5, 2008 1:03 PM EDT 0 recs
I like Corey the best of the bunch
I'd rank 'em as follows: (1) Corey, (2) Aardsma, (3) Lopez, (4) Snyder.
Hatchet Face will likely stick because they're paying him more than the others. Also, none will be demoted. They don't have options and would have to clear waivers, which isn't likely.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

As for Tito's thinking
He is trying to keep players sharp. Casey has hardly played. Ellsbury hasn't set the worls on fire yet. And, they'll never get anything from (or for) Coco if he doesn't play.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

I can see the Casey thing. I'm fine with that. But having a different CF every other game? I don't think that keeps players sharp. I think that keeps them worried about trying to keep a job. They can't get into a groove. Same with leadoff hitter. We need to get into some type of rhythm...

Buchh's key to success: LOCATION. If he has that down, this kid is going to be a huge star.

I think Dizzle will be fine this year
Last year he had personal and injury problems. He hit over .280 after the ASB, and was good in the post-season.

Manny in particular seems to be in mid-season form w/his lack of D
Also, is it me or does the OF in Toronto seem massive

77 pitches through 4 innings. Tito would probably like to get another inning, especially because he'll have to go to the pen early with beckett tomorrow.

I'm sick of the Japan excuse too
I mean, yes I'm sure they are tired and they want to go home, but come on their D has been terrible in Toronto and their OF has looked bored. Their bullpen has been used too much, we have no idea what will happen with Beckett or Bartolo.
I'm just saying.
