PrintJosh Beckett (2-1, 5.12 ERA) gets the start against Rays hurler James Shields (2-1, 3.30 ERA). The Sox have lost their last six games against AL East opponents, so Josh really needs to step up and be a stopper. Will our stalwart ace stymie the satanic sea dwellers? Can the offense score more than one run? Will JD Drew, Julio Lugo, and David Ortiz hit balls out of the infield? Tune in next week, I mean today at 1:40pm, to find out.

Ball went into the dirt to the right of Youk
then because the Rays dugouts are in foul territory, the ball just kept rolling. Drew threw a pretty bad throw back into the IF, at which point the runner on third scored.

Two great starts wasted after two good comebacks wasted against LA…just a mess of a losing streak here. Have to wonder if the after effects of the teamwide flu aren’t still lingering.

Tip your cap to the Rays. Shields can deal. Once Price et al are major league-ready, the Rays will be a force.
Day off tomorrow. Hopefully Papi will be feeling better after three days off, and Lowell will be back soon. These starts by Beckett and Buchholz were encouraging – especially Buchholz. Very impressive against a solid lineup. Too bad the were wasted. Ah well.
