Not necessarily

They should use him when the game is on the line, which it was just a moment ago.

a quote from Tito

in the post-game article on the Red Sox MLB website confirms what I said about how Paps is used.

Jed Lowrie

Please, hit a HR! If he gets on base, with 1 out, and with LUGO up next, we’re screwed.

Somebody please tell Lugo

he’s playing FOR the Red Sox, not against them. I’m getting sick of these 1-out, clutch double plays.

send Papi the same memo

and remind him he’s the designated HITTER

I hate to be this pessimistic

but the Sox are just begging to lose this one. I still say Papi needs to try bunting. The worst thing a squeeze play could have done is the runner is out at home with 1st and 2nd, two out. The shift has been brutal, couple that with Ortiz’s recent struggles, and it’s not a recipe for success. Francona and Papi need to try something new.

Why not let Veritek try for home on that single?

If he makes it, you win by bringing in the closer and getting rid of Timlin (yah!). If he does not, you still have only 2 outs. Is Veritek that slow, or are the Sox just too conservative sometimes?? I thought not sending him was a bad call, as you never know how the throw in will be. Take a chance in that close a situation!

Ortiz's "recent struggles"

Coming into last night’s game, Papi had hit .298 AVG/.365 OBP/.532 SLG in the last 11 games, with 3 HR 17 RBI. According to the Globe, he is battling the flu (like half the team). The problem with having a roster full of sick players is you can’t open roster spots to call up players from the minors. You’re not going to put a player on the DL for the flu.

As for last night’s game, I don’t want Ortiz bunting with runners on first and third and one out. You certainly don’t squeeze with a bad bunter (Ortiz) at the plate and a slow runner (Tek) on third. That’s a recipe for disaster. The most likely outcome for a suicide squeeze is Papi missed the bunt and Tek gets nailed in a run-down. A safety squeeze is also hard on turf with a bad bunter and slow runner. Unless Ortiz placed the ball perfectly, Tek would be an easy out at the plate. The Sox were playing for a hit or sac fly, as they should with their #3 hitter up.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

And that's the game.

Chalk this one up to a lack of hitting though. The pen at least kept it tied until now. Two critical double plays from Lugo and Papi (0-6). Not to mention Julio’s seventh error leading to the fourth Rays run. An ugly looking game all around.

Wha'?

We’re 15-10 with a dinged-up roster and in the throes of an extremely tough schedule.

yea whatever we get this year is great after last year…. but lets not forget dice k is a number 4 starter pitching 2nd, Lester sucks never a fan of that guy besides his guts and heart nothing special about him, Wakefield always sucked no need to go any further. The killer B’s in Josh and Cla all we have.

Masterson is the real deal too.

"This year is great after last year."

Are you posting from April 2007? I feel like an archaeologist stumbling across a lost tribe. Please tell us of your customs.

In fact… Hiroo? Is that you?
