It's finally here! The day we've all been waiting for! Opening Day ... in America? ... for the Red Sox?
Whatever you want to call it, the Red Sox are playing tonight and the game actually counts in the standings. It may not feel like Opening Day, but let's treat it like it is the true one, right?
Here are your starters for tonight's game. For some reason, I feel like we've seen this one before...:
Here is the Red Sox's lineup for tonight:
- Ellsbury, rf
- Pedroia, 2b
- Ortiz, dh
- Ramirez, lf
- Lowell, 3b
- Youkilis, 1b
- Varitek, c
- Crisp, cf
- Lugo, ss
The A's lineup to come later.
JD Drew is still hurting so Coco Crisp takes his place in the lineup, but plays center, meaning Jacoby Ellsbury is in right field. Look at the consecutive speed in the lineup: Crisp, Julio Lugo and then Ellsbury -- all back-to-back. Please take advantage of this tonight, Tito.
I'm treating this as the first "real" game of the season. Yeah, Japan was nice but who knows what those performances would have been like if it wasn't after an 18-hour plane ride? Hopefully all the jet lag is out and we can actually play some real baseball.

To see Ells in the leadoff spot. No knock on his abilities or his speed or anything, but I'm tempted to bet my entire net worth ($6.47) that DP has a better OBP than Ells this season, and it's the most important thing for a leadoff hitter, no?

Daisuke is DEALING. One mistake that's obviously hurt him but he looks fantastic out there right now.
Little late on the play at the plate with Youk but the tag was clearly missed. Yet even though the replay showed this multiple times the Oakland announcers kept claiming that Youk must be out because he went back to tag the base again. Talk about homers...

I was there tonight. RED SOX NATION was well represented as always. Lots of screaming, cursing, and the normal behavior given to us by our fine friends in the MAC.
It was great! Plus, Tek got screwed, Dice-K threw looked great except for one bad pitch. Tomorrow should be great if it doesn't rain!
