Welcome Matt. Two questions for you.

1) Predictions for Drew and Lugo this season: AVG, SLG, R, HR, SB, games played, etc.

2) Favourite baseball movie

Welcome...Books!

Whats your favorite baseball book?

Have you read Tim Kurkjian's "Is This a Great Game or What?" ? I just finished it and found it very entertaining and would suggest it to fellow OTM'ers.

Question about contract payouts?

What protection does a team have against losing a fortune paying a player like A-Rod or even JD Drew these obscene amounts if the player then gets injured early in the season? Can ARod or especially Drew collect most of his millions if he twists or even breaks his ankles on day one of the season and then is out all year?? Do these huge contracts give any significant protections to the team management for lack of production for whatever reasons??

You should get somethihng for 20 million dollars, No??

Legal Liability

If I was walking down Lansdowne Street and was hit in the head by a homerun over the left field wall, would major league baseball and the Red Sox be liable for damages because they allowed balls to fly out of the park without warning. Has anyone ever been hurt in this way yet?

by NG on Apr 1, 2008 8:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm not Matt

But there's no liability. The danger is open and obvious. By walking down Lansdowne Street during a game you are assuming the risk. Similarly, the people who park in that open air lot on Lansdowne can't make the Sox pay for their dented hoods when Manny hits on bomb out there. They are assuming the risk. Or someone strolling alongside a golf course can't sue if my slice beans one on the head.

I would guess someone somewhere has probably been hurt by a ball leaving a park.

Manny ain't the only bad man.
