Sox's Japan roster Announced

Extra Bases has the low-down on which Red Sox players are heading to Japan:

PITCHERS (13): David Aardsma, Clay Buchholz, Bryan Corey, Manny Delcarmen, Jon Lester, Javier Lopez, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Hideki Okajima, Jonathan Papelbon, Kyle Snyder, Julian Tavarez, Mike Timlin, Tim Wakefield.

CATCHERS (3): Dusty Brown, Kevin Cash*, Jason Varitek.

INFIELDERS (8): Sean Casey, Alex Cora, Mike Lowell, Jed Lowrie*, Julio Lugo, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis.

OUFIELDERS (6): Coco Crisp, J.D. Drew, Jacoby Ellsbury, Bobby Kielty*, Brandon Moss, Manny Ramirez.

60-DAY DISABLED LIST (1): Curt Schilling.

*Non-Roster Invitee

No real surprises. It's nice to see Bryan Corey make the trip. The Sox bringing 3 catchers isn't a real surprise, but bringing Dusty Brown over George Kottaras is kind of a head-scratcher. The Sox front office is showing how much they really like Brown.

In related news, Kottaras, Chris Carter, Lincoln Holdzkom and Craig Hansen were optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. Oh Hansen, how we hardly knew ye'...

I know plenty about Hansen. Holdzkom, on the other hand, is a real mystery.

Lincoln Holdzkom

here is the scouting report from soxprospects.com on Holdzkom

Scouting Report: Very big, hard throwing righty reliever. His repertoire includes a mid 90s cut fastball (sits around 93 mph), a two seamer, a low 80s slider, and an average curve. The slider and curve have similar breaks, so some scouts basically just consider that he has a slurve. Struggles with control. Missed some of 2006 with a jammed shoulder. Missed 2004 due to TJ Surgery

I was about to ask how you knew this and decided instead to Google it--it's mentioned in several places, and apparently he also has seven tattoos and is a mean juggler.

There are some weird personalities on this team... I guess they had to fulfill their tattoo'd quotient now that Hinske's gone.
