Red Sox set sights on Teixeira - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
"I think he’ll sign with the Red Sox," the official said. "They want him. They have a good relationship with (agent Scott) Boras, and in the end, they have the dollars to make it happen."
"He is a perfect fit for the Red Sox and Boston," said another club official. "A guy who plays every day, doesn’t need to be the center of attention, is a good teammate, and can hit like he does, I can’t see the Red Sox letting him get away."

MLB trade rumors is reporting this too,
…obviously. If this goes down, I would be so happy. Sorry Lowell, but you’re the odd man out on this one.

Well, MLBTR isn’t ‘reporting’ it, they’re just feeding the link…

Understood.
Kinda like my double-refeeding to here. :)

p.s.
Theo keeps saying that he is not optimistic about a big deal at these meetings. He says there really isn’t much going on with the club and he expects to leave with nothing
…all the more reason why i think something big is about to happen. Theo is a master of deception when it comes to letting people know what is going on behind closed doors.

Tex said he wanted a home for christmas, so maybe we’ll know soon……ideal situation: We do sign him, so the Yanks focus their money at CC, just to find out that the rumor are true, CC doesn’t want to play in NY and are force to settle for Sheets or someone else injury prone

Hmmmm
He’s an awesome player, that’s for sure. So what do you do next, flip both Tek and Lowell to the Dodgers for Martin? Are they resigning Blake?
The fact is we still need a catcher and preferably another starter…..

Lowell for Shoppach.

Signing Tex doesn't preclude other moves
And no you wouldn’t flip Tek, he’s not on our team (and even if we signed him we couldn’t trade him until midseason). And yes you trade Lowell. He’s a lot better than Casey Blake who just got $17 mil.
by BTLove on Dec 9, 2008 11:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
They are resigning Blake.
Only problem is that they wouldn’t want to give up Martin for them, even if we resigned Tek first.

Lowell, $$ for Lowell’s contract and a prospect for Shoppach.

Not in the Indian's eyes.
You have to look at it from their point of view. We are very confident, Lowell will return to form but they are probably not so sure. They would be trading away their future catcher, who they are very excited about, for an aging, possibly injured 3B and a mid-level prospect.
by Schulz on Dec 10, 2008 1:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Is he their future catcher?
Shoppach will be 29 by the start of the season, only a year younger than Vic. I know they project Vic to play 1B for a while, but most catchers don’t play too well into their 30’s. How long can you expect Shoppach to perform? The Indians need to win now, before all those guys (Grady, Cliff Lee, Pronk) are FA’s. I could see them taking Lowell if we pay half his money.

They're future catcher is Carlos Santana
Currently in AA, I think.

Lowell would be attractive
To the Twins and Giants. Both are shopping for third basemen. Could net a fifth starter and prospect, or a bullpen arm and, well, how bout Bengie Molina?

Damn, I want this to be over
I don’t know what to think anymore, if I want Teixeira or if the Sox don’t need him. I’ve been a huge fan of him since he first started playing at ML level, and I wanted the Sox to trade for him badly at the middle of the season. But this is not a hole, and it might kill payroll flexibility for the next few years. Also, I like the idea of having a lower payroll, I think it’s very sexy.
Okay, I give up. Just sign this motherfucker, and fuck payroll and holes and shit like that, and small market teams can go all fuck themselves. :)

That’s smarter comedy than Dane Cook’s.

That's not sad.
Kool-Aid Man was kinda funny, but it didn’t need to be said. Everyone thought it privately in their head and had private little giggles because they thought it was so original, witty, and unique.

But it's this Tex situation for me is so hard
Part of me want him to be a Red Sox, but the other part feel there are bigger holes to fill. Every bit of me hopes that if he doesn’t sign with the Sox, let the Nationals have him. He would be like Berkman or Hanley. Wonderful, wonderful players that unless someone screw up hard we won’t have to face in meaningful games.
