Decent move I suppose. I cant see him playin much CF though?

Sweet.

I’ve always liked him.

I think he has always had a love/hate relationship inside all of us. I just wish that he wasn’t our reclamation project of the year. He can only play every other day (if even that). How does that fill a void in the outfield? It creates one moreso then making one obsolete. I think an incentive laden contract would be nice and would net alot of savings on an all-star caliber player, but the risk is just a bit too big for us to take. Rather have Van Every or someone as the 4th outfielder at this point.

What risk?

I can’t see us spending too much money at him. He knows he’s not a full-timer at this point, which lowers his cost considerably. The brass is counting on Ellsbury to step up this year (thus the Coco trade), and Baldelli is a true fourth OF with a pretty good bat.

Manny ain't the only bad man.

The only problem with Baldelli

is he cannot start. If Drew or Ellsbury get hurt for an extended period of time, the Sox may need to find another OF to play every day.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

by Drugs Delaney on Dec 8, 2008 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

That my friends..

is the risk with Baldelli. Yeah, he is an all-star caliber 4th man, but because of his Mitochondrial disorder, he can only start every other day or so. He said during games this year that around the 6th or 7th innings he begins to get fatigued. He even had mild to extreme shakes during some at bats due to his fatigue. Hes a great player, but he really cannot be counted on. I still say Van Every or Carter or someone.

Ideally he wouldn't have to start to often...

The way he fits on our team is as a great bat off the bench, and spot starter for Jacoby. I mean, we would have a bench CF’er that is better than our starter. He would be one of, if not the best, bench bat in the league. I would pinch hit him for our catcher, SS, and CF as many times as possible. We would need another OF’er in case of injury, but whatever.

True.

But we’re not going to find someone capable of playing everyday on the FA market, because we’re not going to give starter money to a back-up.

Manny ain't the only bad man.

To continue the thought...

I’d love to have Kotsay back, especially if we don’t get Tex. But he wants to play everyday.

Manny ain't the only bad man.

We would all love Kotsay back

I think he just meshed with the team right from the get go. Its a shame he wants to play starting CF everyday though. I doubt he will find that deal, and if he doesn’t, I think Theo will be there to offer him a contract to be our 4th man. Seeing as he can also play 1st, he is quite a bargain.

I saw some funny video of him taunting a goalie like he was a circus clown or something. It was hilarious.

Can't believe he had Elisha Cuthbert for a girlfriend and screwed it up...

and then starts complaining about it.
