I give up being a Giants fan-turn to Red Sox
I have always loved Boston, but I live in SF. I am glad to now be a part of overthemonster. To start off, I stopped rooting for the Giants today, in the morning, but have been contemplating about this decision for over 1 month. Brian Sabean, GM, is so much worse than Theo Epstein, whom I like a lot. Epstein better than Billy Bean? Maybe.
I hope to be a regular poster here, because I love the Red Sox.( I told the fans at mccoveychronicles that 'Im through there)
On a lighter note, I liked the Tazawa signing, cheaper than most 1st round DPs in the MLB first year player draft.
I WELCOME MYSELF TO OVERTHEMONSTER.COM

Welcome
Welcome man, I don’t post here a lot but I am on here a lot. I have always liked the giants but don’t understand a lot of the moves the make pierzinski trade.

That was a while ago
and it was one of the biggest fleecings in memory.
I don’t remember all of the players, but wasn’t it based around Nathan and Liriano for AJ? Ouch

what's funny is
I think that Boof Bonser was the most highly-sought out of Liriano, him and Nathan.

I'm not sure I approve
Giving up on the Giants? While you’re at it maybe you should drop the niners too, pick up the Pats, or the NY football Giants. At least until they go downhill in a few years. Are the Lakers your bball team? My favorite soccer team is Real Madrid, what about yours? Michael Phelps your favorite swimmer? Are you sure you want to choose the Sox? How about the Phillies, they’re pretty cool.
As to why there’s “less life here than at McCovey”, I’ve only been posting for a few weeks so I’m not sure exactly, but it’s probably because there are some other really active Red Sox message boards/blogs, like SOSH and stuff. Well, welcome aboard.

Why it's quiet
Well, it’s the offseason, and the Red Sox don’t have a lot of holes to fill. There are fewer subjects to discuss.
There are plenty of Red Sox forums and blogs out there. You have the individual blogs that (almost) no one reads, and the huge forums like on Boston.com, where discourse is typically crude, chaotic and uninformative. Then you have SoSH, which I read every day. Discussion there runs the gamut from awesome to repetitive (Some big piece of news happened, so let’s all say variations of the same thing for 15 pages). It’s also a heavily policed / moderated forum, unlike OTM, which is more freewheeling and accessible. In short, there is a lot of competition for OTM, which limits the number of people that come here.
Also, this site isn’t an enormous community, like some others on SBN. I kind of like it that way – you get to know regular posters better if there aren’t two hundred of them.
I’m also a little bit to blame. I haven’t been writing with the same frequency as during the season. If there’s less new stuff, then that may result in fewer people coming here.
Finally, we can blame Theo and company. If the Front Office made more trades just for the heck of it, complete with lots of bad or inexplicable decisions, we’d have a LOT more to talk about. But all is well on the AL Eastern front, and all is quiet on OTM.

Jacoby Ellsbury is like so hot right now, JD Drew is a crock and did you see the catch Coco made? (Did I miss anything?)

If he jumps off, then we can be brutal. For now, let him be.

Of course
Theo is better then Sabean. He is better then most GMs in the game. Sabean is a good GM though. You picked a bad time to jump ship, they look like they good be good with all the pickups this offseason.

Sabean is a cretin.

ehhhhh
He did draft Lincecum, Cain, Keith Foulke, Bill Mueller, Derek Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Carl Everett, Brad Ausmus, and Deion Sanders.

He also
Gave Barry Zito a 7yr/126mil contract to pitch as well as Aaron Miles, he also gave Aaron Rowand 5yr/70mil last year based of a clear career year, and he just gave washed up Edgar Renteria 2yr/18.5mil. All of this during a time in which he should be rebuilding and saving his money for when they can compete.

So, basically, they should cut him back to being a scouting director?

Theo hasn't been great in the FA market either.
I love Theo but he has definitely given out some bad contracts too. Lugo, Clement, Renteria were terrible. He offered Nomar 4/$60mil. The Drew deal might end up OK. Foulke deal obviously worked out. Theo’s strength has been development and trades. He has truly excelled here where Sabean has made some bad moves (the Joe Nathan deal).

I can't complain that much about the FA shortstops
SS for the Sox lately has been the baseball equivalent of the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor from Harry Potter. There really haven’t been excellent shortstops available on the FA market when the Sox have needed them (or their year in Boston was the Crappiest Ever.) The shortstops who stuck over the past decades were developed within the farm system. Hopefully Lowrie won’t suck and necessitate finding another FA SS.

I think the Renteria is a good signing.
Certainly an upgrade over whatever they had there last year, and he doesn’t cost a draftpick.
Manny ain't the only bad man.

There's an idea.
Sign Aaron Miles for the bullpen.

Zito killed the Giants
You dump so much money and get almost nothing from that player just hurts. Once Zito’s contract is finally gone, I can see the Giants being players in the NL West again. That money could of gone to someone like a CC who can get people out.
