Halos withdraw offer to Tex
The Angels are out of the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes.
The team has withdrawn its offer to the free-agent slugger, according to a source close to the negotiations.
The Red Sox did not necessarily end their bid for Teixeira when owner John Henry said the team "is not going to be a factor" in the negotiations.
The Angels' decision, however, appears more final.

The Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon withdrew their offer to free-agent slugger Mark Teixeira and do not intend to continue negotiations with his agent, according to a source close to the negotiations.
Believed to have offered about $160 million over eight seasons, the Angels became the second team in recent days to declare the price on Teixeira to be too steep. The Boston Red Sox reached a similar decision Thursday night after meeting with Teixeira and agent Scott Boras. Team owner John Henry issued a statement that concluded, “ … we are not going to be a factor,” though evidence suggests negotiations are not dead.
A source told Yahoo! Sports on Sunday that the Angels would not re-enter the bidding for Teixeira, whom they acquired from the Atlanta Braves at the trade deadline in July.
The Angels’ withdrawal would appear to narrow the field for the switch-hitting Teixeira to the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles and, presumably, the Red Sox and New York Yankees. It is unknown if the Yankees have made an offer on Teixeira or if the Red Sox’s offer – believed to be in the neighborhood of $170 million over eight years – still stands.
The Nationals’ bid reportedly matched the Angels’. The Orioles reportedly were considering whether to add an eighth year to their offer.
Owner Arte Moreno for weeks had led the Angels’ negotiations and abruptly pulled out Sunday amid reports Boras was asking for more than $180 million over eight seasons.
The apparent loss of Teixeira is a big hit for the Angels, who had made him their No. 1 priority after again losing to the Red Sox in the American League Division Series. They’ll now turn their attention to signing closer Brian Fuentes and adding offense through a trade (Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko) or free agency (Adam Dunn, Pat Burrell).
What a very interesting twist to the Teixeira saga. So who is the top bidder as of now, and do you think the Red Sox are the favorites once again?

Manny is a Halo
Hilarious, Angel fan must be ready to drink a bottle of Drano…
Another offseason, another Angel OF FA signing…
This is getting almost too unbelievable
Firstly, the Sox have “dropped out” of the bid.
Secondly, the Yanks have reportedly said “We will not pay above 160MM for him”.. which obviously shows that they aren’t as serious as the other teams in the bid.
Thirdly, the Halos have now withdrawn their offer.
So he signs with the Nats or O’s? They are his hometown teams, and if he does sign in either place, we win. More so on the Nats because they are NL, but even if he signs on the O’s, they won’t be a contender for another couple years or so.
All I think this is doing is showing Boras that his clients services aren’t really needed. The price will be dropped and the Sox offer (If rumors are true, is between 165-175) will most likely be accepted. We save like 15 million. Good deal!
We're still in it.
Don’t buy Henry’s bluff.

I've ranted about this before...
Its Boras. I don’t care who the f*ck you are, but why would you want this piece of sh*t to represent you? He’s a lying, lowdown, unscrupulous excuse for a human being and I reckon all his postering and lying is backfiring. I know Theo has managed to deal with him before, but its nice to see mostly everyone giving him the big eff you!
After the shenanigans over the Furcal deal and how the Braves got screwed over by another agent, I reckon the GM’s are finally drawing a line in the sand on this crap.
Completely agree
Some day people will realize there is more to being an agent than just getting top dollar by any means necessary.
Like giving press conferences?

I can stand Drew way more than I can stand Boras. Drew R. drinks too much Red Bull…Boras lies…Ill take Drew… =)

They all lie,
including the front offices. I don’t think he lies more than others. All Boras does is get his clients more money. I’ve heard that the Boras effect is something like $1mil per year.
But... sugar?
It’s tasty…

Not everyone has/can take(n) the SAT.
And that is a huge difference in number of people.

In all my modesty
I take the ITBS ( Iowa Tests for Basic Skills) and did well enough to be able to PAY TO TAKE THE SAT! Lucky me!
Well, I will appreciate for you to keep my zingers out of your mouth!
Iowa?
I don’t mind paying for it if I can get a good scholarship(s) to UF.

Did Kawakami ever accept our offer?
Well, I will appreciate for you to keep my zingers out of your mouth!
Right now
I think I’d be very happy to see Tex signing with a crappy team for much less than he expected.
Mother---- him and John Wayne!
I think you're going to see a lot of that with some of the lower tier free agents after the Tex / Manny deals are finished.

Boras is the guy I want babysitting my kids...
cuz the fact is he has a job to do, and deliver moreso than anyone else….which is get his clients and in return himself the most money possible, he is right in doing everything he does to drive up the price of whoever, and quit bitching regardless…. it is not your money, it is imaginary to us, of course ownership wants to save here and there but they could prolly double their payroll and still come out with a solid profit…. boras is the best at what he does, the money we bitch about is not really an issue to them, and more importantly to us
Money
It’s not our money, but it is our team’s money. Which means that if they have to spend more in one area, they will have to skimp in another. Which leads to an inferior team, something us fans do not want to see.

That’s like saying that the Enron execs. did their jobs good because they increased the return on stock-holders and board members investment (which is execs #1 responsibility in a publicly traded company)….until all their lies came to light and the company came crashing down.
I hate it when people defend Boras saying “He’s just doing his job good, quit complaining”, because when you openly lie, deceit, and act on your own interest above your clients (yes, he has done this plenty), that’s not just “doing your job well”. In negotiations there is a thing called “in good faith”, which Boras completely ignores. It’s one thing to exaggerate like many Agents and GMs probably do, but it’s another thing to blatantly lie. He’s screwed over his own client on times to help another client, and manipulated other clients to carry out his own agenda. This is not “doing your job well”.
People like Boras or Enron, or whoever tries getting what they want through lies always fall eventually, because as more and more people see more of their lies come to light, they start doubting anything they claim and get sick of dealing with that crap. This is already starting to happen as teams less and less want to deal with Boras. The Angels are a perfect example, there is no reason for them to think they are out of the running, especially with the top runner the Sox currently balking. But they got sick of Boras asking for more money then is reasonable, making up lies about “having a better offer near $200 mil” (that he told the Sox, and I’m sure he told all the other teams), and so they basically in a professional way just told Boras to go screw himself
Sox agree to deal with Mark Teixeira
They have agreed to a deal in principle, details are still sketchy. 8 for $170 without an opt out clause.
