O RLY? Pt. 2
So the Rangers want PITCHING for one of their catchers? Who do they think they are, demanding a ransom for the our loved ones?!?!?! Fine, just don't hurt our franchise cornerstone. We'll give you the Buchholz...

Freaky
Trade Wake and see if they will take Timlin. Probably not, but it’s worth a shot. That would leave the rotation as:
1 Lester
2 Beckett
3 Dice-BB
4-5 Byrd/Buch/Bowden
Catching would still be a hole in the line-up, but I would suggest going for Max.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!

There are two and a half fundamental things wrong with your suggestion.
1) Wake cannot be traded. He is a 10-5 guy (in the Majors for at least 10 years, the most recent five or more spent with one team). Even if he weren’t, he wouldn’t be traded.
2) Timlin is a FA (or, more likely, will announce his retirement this off-season). Even if he were our property, he’s another 10-5-er. Even if he weren’t a 10-5er, no other team would want him.
2.5) Byrd is a FA. There is no reason for the Red Sox to re-sign him (they won’t).
Apart from that, and the fact that Buchholz and Bowden are likely to start 2009 in the minors, I think you have a shot.

Agreed, generally.
There IS a reason to offer Paul Byrd arbitration – he’s a Type B free agent, and could net us a nice compensatory pick if he signs elsewhere.

Sure - arbitration is a safe bet in Byrd's case, I think.
(I think that qualifies as half a fundamental thing.)
