Trading Lowell
While posting on another thread, I started thinking about everybody's proposed Teixeira scenario. 1. Sign Tex, 2. Youk to third, 3. Trade Lowell.
The first two steps seem easy enough, but what teams would be in the market for Lowell? What could we expect in return? My knowledge is limited in this area, so I'll run through what I know and you guys can all correct me.
Chicago White Sox. Crede is a free agent, and there's been indications that Chicago will not resign him. They're also in the market for a speedy CF who could hit leadoff for them. Apparently, Javier Vazquez may be available. Crisp-Lowell for Vazquez+? What would that + be?
Minnesota Twins. All I know is that the twins need a 3B. I don't know who they have to offer or how interested they may be in Lowell. They could fill their third base hole internally with a platoon situation, but Lowell would certainly upgrade the offense.
Texas Rangers. I'm pretty sure Hank Blalock is going to be their DH, leaving 3B open. I think everybody knows that the Rangers have something we want, and they are also in need of pitching (starting and relief). How about Lowell + a young pitcher for Taylor Teagarden?
LA Dodgers. The departure of free agent Casey Blake creates a hole at the hot corner. They are also in need of a lot of other things thanks to loosing a bunch of players to free agency. They have a great farms system, but idk how we'd match up on a trade.
That's all I've got. Obviously, most of these teams would ask us to eat some of Lowell's salary. What other teams need a good 3B?

You forgot Philadelphia
They tried to sign Lowell last year.
However, I’m not sure Lowell would be easy to move before Spring Training, when teams can see how he has recovered. If the Sox sign Tex (which I think is a long-shot), Boston will get little in return for Lowell because other teams know he has to be moved. A Lowell trade will be unpopular in the clubhouse and, once again, the Sox will be footing the bill for a player on another team.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
The Pedro Feliz who hit .249 AVG/.302 OBP/.402 SLG (.705 OPS)?
Yeah, you’re right, they wouldn’t want Lowell. Feliz made $3 million last year and plays multiple positions. He is more of a bench player.

wow
i completely forgot about cleveland
I meant to add them and say that maybe we could get shoppach back
Or we could just trade for cash
I mean, we are rich, but not unlimited wealth. It has to run out somewhere. I wouldn’t mind trading for a Victor Martinez… woah, really?
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
After looking more
Pros:
.298 career average.
He is only 29.
Never struck out more than 78 times in a year.
He can rotate to first base.
Cons:
Martinez has one stolen base in his Major League career, and that was back in 2003.
Everything in between:
He averages 20 bombs per year.
Made about $4.5 million in 08.
Thoughts?
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
I'd love him
Though he probably won’t be a catcher for much longer. I seem to recall that he’s not very good defensively.
And it’d take a lot more than Lowell, methinks.
Manny ain't the only bad man.
Vic Martinez seems bound for 1B/DH
He’s not a terribly good defensive catcher, and couldn’t throw out his own grandmother stealing 2B with a walker. I’d rather have Shoppach, to be honest.
"You know you're having a bad day when the fifth inning rolls around and they drag the warning track." - Mike Flanagan, Baltimore Orioles pitcher, 1992.
So would I
However, with Martinez destined for 1B, the Indians will probably hold on to Shoppach to be their C. Too bad…
