Who is Derrick Gibson?
He was a second-round pick of the Red Sox in '08. He's 6'1 and according to the limited information on the internet, he will develop average power once he fills out. And I understand he's very athletic and has the ability to steal bases. Currently he's listed as a 2B/SS but is expected to be moved to CF (one site said he has a good arm). I have a few questions for Red Sox nation.
1. What kind of player will GIbson look like in four years?
2. Will he fantasy-valuable?
THanks in advance for your help.

I don't know too much about Gibson
But check here. He has great speed, good glove and an okay swing.
Mother---- him and John Wayne!

Gibson
Isn’t easily projectable at this point, so question 1 is tough.
2: If he makes the Majors, he’ll probably be worth picking up for steals, based upon accolades and accomplishments thusfar in the minors.
I hadn’t heard about him being moved to CF, though to me it would show a lack of faith in Che-Hsuan Lin, Ryan Kalish, Ryan Westmoreland and Jacoby Ellsbury as opposed to a positive move for him. It makes sense to keep him in the MIF as long as possible.
If he is moved to CF, I’d have to think it would signify that: they’re not sure about his defense holding up at 2B or SS, and that he wouldn’t hit enough for 3B, but that they’d be trying to see whether he could become a Ryan Freel or Chone Figgins-type utility player. It seems early to be trying that, however.

utility type?
well that answers it for me…..doesn’t seem too fantasy-valuable if he can’t start……and i can’t get too excited about guys who don’t hit for BA. this is a nice site, by the way

He's not necessarily not going to start.
He’s 18. Give him time on all of it.
