Who to root for
Its not over. But it may be time to come to terms with the fact that its unlikely that the sox will get out of this jam. Assuming that the redsox do not go on to the next round, who do you root for? For me I think if the dodgers get out of their hole I probably cheer for them, because of manny, along with other redsox heroes(lowe and nomar). But if it came to a phillies vs rays world series, I'd probably have to support the rays. The rays are trying to prove theyr not "this years colorado", and furthermore it would be embarrassing to see them collapse to the phillies(even if a little satisfying). If theyr going to beat us, i hope they represent the AL and win the damn thing, (unless of course LA is in it, then i hope TB gets swept )(also if this were the yankees id hope for them to collapse regardless) .

Phillies.
The Rays are a great baseball story, no doubt about it. And I think Joe Maddon has done a job that cannot be preceded with enough positive adjectives. I’d like to see something good</em happen to Rhode Island native, Rocco Baldelli. However, come the World Series I’ll be rooting for the Phillies if the Red Sox are not playing. My wife is from there and Philadelphia knows that it has a baseball team.

I would be rooting for the Rays.
I’ve got no personal reasons to support either the Phillies nor the Dodgers. We might be Red Sox fans but we’re all part of the American League and thus its almost a no-brainer that I support the AL team in any series. In addition, I find the Rays to be fun loving, hard working and entertaining team to watch—the team to beat this year.
Forever Red Sox, screw all those pink-hatted babes, 'got no family, 'got no friends, 'got no life--RED SOX I LIVE FOR THIS.

One reason to support the Dodgers
is they have a bunch of ex-Red Sox. And Philly has a great, exciting offense.

Rays
Two reasons:
1) The handful of thugs on the team notwithstanding (yes, I’m talking about you, Jonny Gomes), they play the game with a lot of heart, the way it ought to be played. And the team was built the right way, without trying to be MFY-lite. I may not like the team, but I have to respect them.
2) I’m a big fan of Joe Maddon.

again, are we actually rooting for the rays?
or more troll votes?

I'll admit, I voted
But really though, if I were a Sox fan, I would never be able to root for Torre or Manny. So if it came to Rays vs Phillies, I would seem to think you guys would want the AL east to be represented (as if people needed more proof that it’s the best division).

What is this? College football?
Strength of schedule/division doesn’t help.

just look at the angels. I hate to admit this, but i think the yankees were better than the angels this year. But the yankees had to play 19 games against the sox/rays/blue jays.

But the MFY didn't make the playoffs.
Strength of schedule and division don’t help you win a playoff berth is you are tied for the WC.

what? the point is, the angels probably dont make the playoffs if they are in the AL east. How about the dodgers, youre saying it doesnt help the dodgers make the playoffs that they play in the worst division in baseball? yeah right. Strength of division DOES affect the WC, because guess what, nearly half of a team’s record is against their division.

You're not getting what I'm saying.
As a UF Gators fan, I root for the SEC in every possible game. That way if a spot in a BCS game is between us and another team from a different conference, we can play the “we played (a harder schedule / in a harder conference) and had the same record” card.
If we and the Twins had tied in records this year, the fact that we played in the AL East wouldn’t have given us the advantage. The tie-breakers would determine that.

Ok, I was talking about pride in your division, but whatever
It just makes it that much more meaningful to win the AL east if the WS champion keeps coming out of it.

It doesn't matter if you weren't the World Series winner. Do you think it really made the MFY04 fans feel better that they won the 04AL East?

The Rays
Gotta like Longoria, Upton and Crawford. And the pitching is excellent. And I probably played football against Carlos Pena (if he played football freshman and sophmore year).
Ah well. At least my other team is winning.
Manny ain't the only bad man.
