ALCS Game 4: Postgame Thread

Did you watch game four? Are you unhappy about it? Ask your doctor if Prozac this thread is right for you. Double-blind clinical studies have shown that concentrated randomness dulls the effect of postseason loss.

Game recap, in Haiku form:

He sets and he throws -
A knuckleball, high and flat;
Another home run.

This is all your fault. Why did you leave? :-p

I feel bad enough

I think I sucked our momentum just as much as Wake did.

How bad have the Sox been?

Boston’s starters in games 2, 3 and 4 have surrendered 17 earned runs in 12 2/3 innings, resulting in an ERA of 12.08. Beckett, Lester, and Wakefield have yielded eight homers and allowed a whopping 28 base runners.

Just awful.

ahem

i was explaining to my girlfriend that the sox have been down in the LCS both years that they won the world series and how they had magical come from behind victories…

…and she asked me if they do it on purpose.

don’t count them out yet. don’t get your hopes up, but don’t count them out.

To win

we need three straight gems from Dice-K, Beckett, and Lester. We know that Dice-K and Lester can do this, but Beckett is a big question mark.

We also need an offensive revival, to score runs off of Tampa’s starters, or push them out and score off the pen.

It’s doable, but with all these injuries it’ll be very tough.

Now we are READY!

The Red Sox have the Rays right where they want them…up with 3 wins! This is where they come out and win three straight and then sweep the fanatics or the hollywood boys in the world series…and I predict that in this series we see Josh B come out with blood on his shoulder or oblique! But he will pitch through it and win his start with authority!

Apology and Question

As a Rays fan I feel embarresed by that guy, every fanbase has them I guess.

I came here to find some kind of info on what has happened to Buchholz. As a guy in a dynasty baseball league and just a overall fan of the game. Is he still in the plans for next year? I heard he is in the Arizona Fall League. And anyone have a problem with the move of Masterson to the bullpen? It seems to me that the Sox could really have used a better option as a 4th starter.

Thanks

by hubkid99 on Oct 15, 2008 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

You're right

Every fan base on this SB website has a fair share of profane and immature contributors. Thanks for your comments.

The seventh and eighth inning relievers – Manny Delcarmen and Hidecki Okijima – both were having horrible years so the manager decided to make a reliever out of Masterson (for other reasons, too). Yeah, I thought he looked far better in the starter’s role but he’d been groomed the past few months for the bullpen. Hence, you didn’t see him start. Next year? Who knows.

I question whether Buchholz is ready. His season up in the Bigs was so horrendous it may take him a bit to give it another legitimate shot. Hopefully, he’ll mature and meet expectations. He certainly has talent. Other posters here, especially those in NE who get more team info., can fill you in on his progress. and where he is at the moment.

I have a question for you: Do you think the Rays will be this good the next few years, or is this just one of those magical years?

by ccthemovieman on Oct 15, 2008 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I can't see why not

I have to admit in the past 2 years I have given up my tickets moved to Jacksonville and had twin boys, so I am not as up to date as in years past. That being said, I still try to watch every game and have made it down to a few.

As far as the next few years I look at it this way. The only player I see leaving due to free agency is Upton. They are loaded in the minors, so they have the ability to make trades to fill in any holes. I don’t see many mid-year fix deals in the team’s future, but you could see more deals like Garza/Bartlett for Young/Pirdie. Jackson could be moved in the offseason for a bat too.

Things really look good these days, and for the future, but who knows. Pretty much this same team lost 90 last year. It’s baseball, anything can happen. Just ask Tiger fans.

Need a fifth option on the poll:

I’m a child of the 90’s. Someone, help me! (Also, I hate the 90’s and dance music, but not Tek or Wake. That honor is reserved for Wholio.)

The 90s were good times, for the US at least.

We are heading into a very bad period now. Think 5-10 year recession, possibly Great Depression 2.0. The only positive is that the Red Sox are friggin’ sweet and should be frequent playoff competitors in the coming years.

Blame the stupid banks for giving loans to people who couldn’t pay them back, and then getting paranoid.

And it would be more of a 2.5 or 3.0

Jimmy Carter got 2.0 with the double digit inflation, unemployment, and interest rates.

Mind you, a heady cocktail of v & v sounds like the key to surviving the play in this series so far.

Excellent choice.

I grew up in the 90s, but didn’t listen to much music until the 2000s. So my knowledge of the 90s is limited to what I randomly stumble onto on Youtube.
