DO NOT PANIC

Star-divide

2004: Down 3-0, we come back to win against the MFY, go on to win the World Series.

2007: Down 3-1, we come back to win against the Indians, go on to win the the World Series.

2008: Down 2-1, against the Rays, we start panicking. Why?

Calm down people. The Rays don't have a closer like Rivera was in 2004, they don't have a Cy Young Winner in their rotation, and they certainly don't have the veteran experience of the 04MFY (Cliff Floyd = knee-slapper [not a joke about his knees]). We have no good reason to panic until the last batter for the Sox is called out. And even then, we have a great team for years to come.

If you think we have reason for concern, please elaborate with a comment [meaning no one-sentence trolling].

And just because I thought it was a funny mention on DRaysBay: FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES FRIGGIN YANKEES

Which is why the comeback will be all the sweeter.

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

For what it's worth, they have Balfour

Who has the third lowest FIP of relievers behind Papelbon and Rivera. He’s not a closer because he’s used in far more important scenarios than the 9th.

True, including the more important situations part...

but if we still have at bats left, I won’t count us out.

we can has pitching staff nao?

…also, who stole the bats?

by morineko on Oct 15, 2008 3:24 AM EDT reply actions

Is not.

Have faith in these Red Sox. We Red Sox fans, probably more so than any other team, know how it feels to be in a hole. Sometimes we crawl out, sometimes we don’t. The Red Sox have accomplished a heck of a lot this season and are one of the four best teams in baseball at the moment. REAL FANS DON’T POUT WHEN THEY’RE OUT, WHICH WE’RE NOT!!! GO SOX!

Forever Red Sox, screw all those pink-hatted babes, 'got no family, 'got no friends, 'got no life--RED SOX I LIVE FOR THIS.

Eh

If the Sox come back despite all the injuries, it’s another comeback for the ages. If they don’t, it just wasn’t their year, but they still had a great season. Any team that can overcome significant injuries to key players like Schilling, Drew, Lowell, and Beckett, as well as several key role players; Manny being a whiny, unprofessional ass; and subpar or inconsistent performances from key players like Matsuzaka, Ellsbury, Crisp, and Tek; and still get to the LCS is having a great year. (And yes, I recognize that Lugo was a major injury too, but isn’t that addition by subtraction?)

We don’t have to win the World Series every year. I’ll be thrilled if the Sox come back, but how can I be disappointed if we have to wait ’til next year?

by RSNexile on Oct 15, 2008 3:17 PM EDT reply actions

I'm guessing the last point was an agreement with what I said?

We have a GREAT chance at winning it all next year, and the year after, etc. A dynasty, one year does not make.

Yes

We may or may not end up winning this year, but is there any team better set up for success over the next five years than the Sox?

by RSNexile on Oct 17, 2008 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Okay, the grammar confused me.

So are we really panicking, or are the "IS" votes just trolls that ignored the last option?

Which also got a lot of votes. Funny.

It's time to panic

I don’t see the Sox coming back, unless Tampa gives us some room. The key could be Beckett once again, as I guess the Sox will at least win one at home, and then it’s up to Beckett in Game 6. I don’t know what to make of Game 7, because it just seems very away.

I’m not giving up, but I don’t see us coming back at all.

Mother---- him and John Wayne!

by MerryGoByeBye on Oct 15, 2008 8:22 PM EDT reply actions

I think Beckett will be fine when he pitches in game 6. Lots of testosterone overrides the pain.

Lester will win in Game 7 b/c he is going to riding the team emotions. That, and MLB can’t have his cancer story have a bad ending.

Dice-K is a great playoff pitcher and we won’t let them sweep us in our home park.

If the Sox comed back,

it will be the largest schizophrenic happening in the world since Jekyll and Hyde! Not very likely to see such a turn around from such a hapless team (due to injuries of course)!

What was that NG?

It is not a repeat of last year and 2004 just yet,

but if somehow the new momentum can be sustained to make that repeat happen, I would be truly delighted. Really!

Club still needs drastic changes for next year either way!

by NG on Oct 17, 2008 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Every club needs that.

Even the eventual World Series champs.

Manny is playing golf.

This is better.
