Beckett better be darn good because

offensively only Youk, Pedroia, Bay and Lowrie can get it done. Ortiz maybe can help, but lately he is swinging one handed and that does not generate much power. Kotsay and Ellsbury have some potential, but are not consistent enough. Crisp and Varitek are USELESS! We need Drew, and we need a more healthy big Papi and Lowell to make this work, UNLESS of course the Sox pitchers are lights out like last night!

Kazmir around 70 pitches through the first three.

Normally it’d be good to chase a pitcher like him early. However, the Rays pen is pretty good. So I’d like to score a few more runs before we chase him…

Does anyone else remember this script?

I would guess that the numbers support the idea that

Rays’ offense > Angels’ offense. So it might JUST be a horizontal step for Becks.

Even with only 4 of the nine players hitting at all in the clutch, I think we could still win if we had 3 great starters. However, with such poor hitting from 4 or 5 players and a non-functional Beckett, I have my very strong doubts now
