Beckett better be darn good because
offensively only Youk, Pedroia, Bay and Lowrie can get it done. Ortiz maybe can help, but lately he is swinging one handed and that does not generate much power. Kotsay and Ellsbury have some potential, but are not consistent enough. Crisp and Varitek are USELESS! We need Drew, and we need a more healthy big Papi and Lowell to make this work, UNLESS of course the Sox pitchers are lights out like last night!

Kazmir around 70 pitches through the first three.

Does anyone else remember this script?
It starts with a bunch of fastballs left over the middle of the plate, features some home runs, and ends with Beckett leaving after 4.2 innings having given up 6 or 7 runs.

I would guess that the numbers support the idea that
Rays’ offense > Angels’ offense. So it might JUST be a horizontal step for Becks.

There they were, Mother, Father, and little brother Joe
They were simply wondering along and didn’t know where they were about to go
They were on a after their house burned down, Joe playing his little game
Of hating life, it really is going to be a shame.
It had all started when Joe had gone on the quest
To follow a bat he had seen, but it had flown away from the rest
And as it flew away from them, he wished he could have seen more of that
But now he would get more than he bargained for, and meet Casey the Bat.
Now the path was getting quite creepy, and Joe began to shake
But if he knew what was up ahead, then what a commotion he would make
He was only at the start; there were simply hundreds of bats
For now, he was in ignorant bliss, not knowing what was after that.
The thing that lay ahead, would it kill them all
Or would it let them return, without getting them mauled?
They could not return to home, for their house had just burned down
Everything, all the toys, books, and even Mothers wedding gown.
And then they heard a ding sound, it sounded like a large bell
But they didn’t know where the noise cam from, but soon a voice would tell
And then, a sure sign of bad luck, a creature crossed their path
And, of all misfortunes, it happened to be a black cat.
And then the once-solid trail had turned to reddish dirt
And the family took a guess that it was a place where multiple people had been hurt
There appeared a mansion straight ahead, easily as large as a ship
A gangster was on their right, and Father recognized him as a Crip.
They ran straight ahead, towards the large mansion ahead there
The Crip was chasing them, brandishing a gun, but they didn’t really care
Because if they slowed down at all, then they would surely be dead
They tried to shun the picture out of their mind of the ground being redder after they bled.
They continued running, moving faster and faster, there was just a little more
And then they had reached the mansion, went in, and shut the door
And Father grabbed the deadbolt, and turned it in his hand
And then turned around, to find the house anything but bland.
For on their left and on their right, there were tubes, and inside them were clones,
And beneath their feet and everywhere, bones and even more bones
And even though to this environment, the whole family was quite new,
But they remembered the bell back on the path, in front of them an obvious clue.
In front of them was a beast, holding a bell within his vicious claw
And they avoided looking at his teeth, within that vicious maw
And then, all three of them felt a strong strain
Of that if they didn’t leave now, than they would be in intense pain.
For in front of them was Casey the giant bat
His body was unnaturally big, and a mean-looking one at that
In unison, the whole family says something along the lines of l "Let us go"
And, without much expression, Casey says blankly "no".
By now the light of day had transformed into night
And little did they know that place would soon be their burial site
That family did not deserve what was going to be their fate
And then they all perished as they disappeared from Casey’s plate.

He’s also had stretches where he’s absolutely unhittable. Typically it works out to about league average production, which is pretty awesome for $4 million a year.

Buch looked deer-in-headlights at best last season. Even with one spot for Wake, there’s a spot for Masterson or Buch. Do you want to hand it to the kid that looked overmatched vs. MLB competition last season, in addition to giving one to a guy who has some identifiable control issues?

That is negative thinking, IMO
Wake is over the hill and throws an unpredictable and uncontrollable pitch. At this point in his career, he is no better than even an undevelopedyoungster who at least has future potential unlike Wake.

What it boils down to is finding another Lester or Paps instead of staying with old and unpredictable Wake! His future performances WILL be more like the meldown recent games, and this is so mainly because of his age.

I wrote a piece a while back on this question. My conclusion was he had performed better as a reliever than as a starter. About 68% of voters (160 total) wanted him in the pen, with 28% wanting him to start.

And I probably said pen then.
But given the caveat of no signings and assumably no trades as well, then Masterson over Buch to start the season in the rotation. Have em both stretched out in ST. If Buch looks good in the later starts against the real ML hitters, then sure. But until then, Masterson has shown the better results more recently.
