OTM Fantasy League II

Last year we had a first try at a OTM Fantasy League and despite some of the initial problems I think in the end the league went well.

Will we be having a go at it a second time? Now we know who actually cares about their team so it can only get better when choosing the users, we can even try something new like a dynasty format with minor leagues.

Who's up for it?

For sure. I'll have another go, and would welcome something even more involved. Let me know if you want any help/support.

I missed out last year, but I'd love to get in on it this year.

You know, a lot of people say they didn't want to die until the Red Sox won the World Series. Well, there could be a lot of busy ambulances tomorrow.

I'll be looking to better my 3rd place finish this year.

I didn't play last year but I would love to play this year. The more options the better.

Some thoughts
  • Would love to do a dynasty league, but that takes serious commitment from everyone involved. Are you up to it, OTMers?
  • Leftfield idea, but what about taking on "actual" teams? That is, players manage the squads that exist in real life. This can be done for the AL if we have 15 players. Then make drafting, trading, etc., favourable to the managers of the worst teams.
  • Live draft is a must.
  • I would chip in money for a league with whistles and bells, and maybe even small cash prizes.

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
The actual teams is a good idea in theory but whoever starts with the Red Sox or Tigers will be a lot happier with the idea than whoever starts with the Royals or Rays.

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
I'm not so sure I'd be thrilled with the Tigers.

A+ on the lineup.

F- on the depth, especially in the pitching department.

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
I'd actually gladly take the Rays, I enjoy following prospects through the minors and the Rays have some insane depth and star power in their system.

Does anyone know websites that run this kind of leagues mentioned above? Either the regular keeper league with minors and the one using actual teams, I'm only familiar with Yahoo.

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
CBS is supposed to be pretty good. Not up and running yet for the season.

Back on the 'running actual teams' league, perhaps the best way to do it is each owner is allowed to keep 10 players from the roster, and all other players go into a draft, which favours the managers of the worst teams.

Anyway, I'll help if we do something as complicated as that.

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
If we do that then I call the Red Sox.

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
Ahem, if we do, I think we'd better do a random draw...

Anyway - it's a hell of a question. Which teams have the strongest core of 10? It's a bit of a leveller because one of our strengths is our depth. (But not that much of a leveller, maybe.)

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
The Giants, if you want a s-ton of CFs.

I dunno. Strongest core of 10? Could it be Rays? Crawford, Pena, Upton, Kazmir, Shields, Garza could all be fantasy studs. Of course, I don't play fantasy ball, so maybe I'm wrong.

Crap. I don't know anything.

I'd be interested
I'm down.

Do we do draft or auction?  I vote auction.

AL only?  Both?

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
Here's the situation point, neither Yahoo nor CBS have their fantasy leagues up yet (except the CBS version of Premium League) so I signed up to receive an alert whenever any of these websites starts their fantasy season. There's two things we have to consider: should we go for one of the Premium leagues (registration fee necessary) or only a free league, I'll leave that for you decide, I'm OK with any of these; second point, I looked up these websites because were the only ones mentioned, if you know more places to run a fantasy league please come up with them.

britsoxfan already volunteered to help and I'm counting on him but it would probably be better if a third person stepped up also, someone from across the pond to deal with whatever issues that might come up at a time when neither I nor britsoxfan can't be online due to time zone differences.

Until we decide one which website to run the league and the formats available we can't decide anything further except which users are up for it. I'll send an email to all the users who participated in last year's league and also make a list of the ones who already stated their intentions to participate in this year's one. If any one else wants to join please reply to this post and I'll keep updating the list.

So far we have:

-nheck
-britsoxfan
-Schulz
-SoxDevil
-Realistic
-drabidea
-gnick55
-BoSox415
-illgamesh

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
I would opt for a free league on CBSsportsline.  They have a pretty good Head to Head format with a live draft and something like 10 people per league.

Re: OTM Fantasy League II
Man, I need a good league.  Last year I played hard to the end in the OTM, earning that 8th place finish.  But it was discouraging how many others gave up early.  How do we make sure the commitment is there this year?

I vote live draft.
