Sox to re-sign Mirabelli

Get the chicken parms ready: Doug Mirabelli is coming back to Boston. Hat tip to OTM reader em3 for the link.

I think we all knew this was coming once we realized there was no other catcher of value out on the market. Mirabelli's bat has declined over the years but he can still catch the knuckleball and that's all that matters right now.

Oh yeah. Dougie's going deep ... in 2008! (I hope)

Re: Sox to re-sign Mirabelli
All I'm worried about is any potential injury to 'Tek. I have a feeling the FO would bring up Cash rather than Kottaras, and Cash and 'Belli would immediately form the least imposing offensive duo behind the plate in the history of MLB (this may not be true, but f'it, right?).

Re: Sox to re-sign Mirabelli
Hooray! I'm so glad the guy's coming back. What would the clubhouse be like without some old moldy chicken parm stench wafting from Dougie's locker, eh?

(I'm just assuming it smells. I'd bet it does, though.)

Re: Sox to re-sign Mirabelli
Thats a HUGE relief. We basically had no other backup catcher, so if Jason Varitek got hurt, who would take his place? Kevin Cash?

Re: Sox to re-sign Mirabelli
Meh, hate using two roster spots for one player. I understand that the market was thin though. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. If Tek gets hurt we are screwed royally.

Re: Sox to re-sign Mirabelli
Shocka - totally agree, though the options out there that were probably better offensively, are probably not even options to LEARN to catch the knuckler (i.e. Damian Miller, Lieberthal, etc.). And those guys weren't even slam dunks to be better offensively.

Once Miguel Olivo came off the market, I think our fate in this matter was sealed.

Re: Sox to re-sign Mirabelli
I would like to see a backup catcher with a better bat but Mirabelli has gotten the jobe done. Im really happy to see that Mirabelli is back with the Sox. I believe that he has been important to this team and we should not fix what is not broken.
