Ellsbury and Papi both work walks, but Lowell GIDPs to end the threat.

Clay.
Quick and clean outing for Buchholz. Nine pitches, 1 K, GO and a Popout.

Re: GT: Sox @ Jays, avoiding embarassment?
Prior to Drew's AB, Litsch had only thrown half of his first 16 pitches for strikes. So why wouldn't you swing at the first two offerings?

I'm aware of the inherent simplicity in this statement, but I love the 2.5/1 strike/ball ratio ol' Clay has going right now. He trusts his ability. Memo to Jon Lester: take notes, even given your recovery last night.

Cripes. 6 pitches for Litsch in the 4th. Embarassing.

Re: GT: Sox @ Jays, avoiding embarassment?
Pitching is most definitely not our issue right now.  Even though we lost the series with the MFY we were incredibly patient at the plate.  Now, against lesser opponents, we are hacking away.  WTF is that all about?

Re: GT: Sox @ Jays, avoiding embarassment?
To some degree, it's fatigue I think, but especially when it comes to McGowan and Burnett, these aren't pitchers who nibble. They attacked the strike zone, which has now set up Litsch well, with Burnett and McGowan putting the Sox bats into a little more of an active/agressive mode.

Re: GT: Sox @ Jays, avoiding embarassment?
Good point Allan.  Its hard to assess things when you can't really see what is going on most of the time.  Thats why the series with the MFY was so great, they played all 3 games live on TV in Sydney.

by sydneysox on Sep 19, 2007 8:07 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Re: GT: Sox @ Jays, avoiding embarassment?
Well, and to be honest, I haven't been able to catch a whole lot of it live myself. But, you figure that in the MFY-series, neither Pettitte nor Wang are really allergic to giving up walks. This allows the Sox to play their own offensive game.

OTOH, Burnett and McGowan were attacking the strike zone the entire way in both games, which forces the Sox to, to some degree, abandon the idea of working the count. To me, getting back to that against Litsch will be key to getting runs tonight.

Smooth swing by Drew on that HR. Nice job.

Um. I could see him DHing on Friday against Kazmir, perhaps, though I want to say the latest word was on a few more days. Conservatively, Tuesday against the A's, depending on the starter.

The Sox are either this concerned about Buchholz's mental state, or his pitch limit tonight was 70. It'll be interesting to know which later on.

Re: Bases loaded, 2 outs.... come on , O's!
Tests my statement about Payton above, though he probably would've swung at and missed on the first three pitches of that last AB.

Re: GT: Sox @ Jays, avoiding embarassment?
No hitting again...and NOW our bullpen is imploding.  SImply embarrassing...biggest collapse since '78...14 1/2 games.  Excuse me while I go vomit.

I completely respect your ability to be a waste of a human being.

Whatever.  Get lost.  Do not come here to start trouble.  How are your football teams doing, btw?

Re: Gonna hafta sweep Tampa Bay...
The way our "powerhouse" offense is going, we will be lucky to get a hit off Kazmir...face it guys...we are d-o-n-e...done.

Re: Gonna hafta sweep Tampa Bay...
I don't know how many people around here have referred to our offense as our powerhouse, so I'm not quite sure what you're quoting from and/or whom you're trying to make that point to.

Friday's game will be decided in the 8th inning.

Re: Gonna hafta sweep Tampa Bay...
On the one hand, if Beckett steps up and gives us a win on Friday, these last few losses will make the media glamorize it all the more. At that point, he could give up 10 ERs over 2 IP in his last start while making lewd gestures at the A's dugout upon his exit, and still win the Cy.

This is what is called a paper-thin silver lining.

It's simple, in
my view. Who cares if it's the WC or the division. It's about the WS. The Sox should focus on getting their rotation set up, their bullpen rested and their offense healthy. And then they gotta go sit on a mountaintop to find their juju.

Continuing to keep it unneccessarily light:

That's probably a decent tongue-twister, jujube jones.

Re: Or the name of a rap star
Or even JuJubes Jones, Jr. if I had done it right the first time.
