Clemens gets knocked out of the game before he can finish the fifth inning; Joba the Hut is praised by the announcers far above what his performance in today's game deserves

by RSNexile on Sep 16, 2007 6:20 PM EDT reply actions

I can see it
Maybe some comment along the lines of Joba carrying Roger's torch into the future, or "the end of one majestic career, the beginning of another," with a visual comparison of Joba and Roger (who do look somewhat alike), shortly after Joba allows his first earned run as a major leaguer.
Just my two cents. Keep the change.

I see the Tigers won
So they're within 2 games of keeping the Bronx Bums from staying in the playoffs. Lets see what we can do to make that 1.5.

Re: Open Thread: 9.16.07 vs NYY
G'day all.  Pretty wild weekend eh?  Both games were on TV here, so it was pretty cool...well except for the 8th inning of the first game.  So far of the 18 innings played we have kick their arse all over the park except that one inning so I'm pretty confident for the playoffs.

Don't worry Tommy, Randy and Allen are fine, I think. I'm the Unofficial Open Thread Guy, and Randy's older, and wiser brother. I don't have the gift of gab or grammar like Randy, so I don't say much. Oh, I'm also a moderator, so if you don't like it I'll erase your account. Kidding.

How's Schilling look?  According to game day 13 strikes and 3 balls...at least he's around the plate.

by sydneysox on Sep 16, 2007 8:22 PM EDT reply actions

He looks good.
The Abreu strike three may have been generous, but Curt is being aggressive in throwing strikes and hitting his spots.

We head to the bottom of the ninth
Ellsbury's hit streak is on the line, so we'll need a couple of guys to get on for him to have a chance to extend it. Mariano's coming in.

Re: Americas' Team
I believe that "America's Team" should come from a special place, a city where people come from all over the world to experience the American way of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They should be a competitive franchise with legendary players, championship titles and a logo that is recognized around the world as an American icon for winning. Finally, it should be a team that stays true to its roots, its city, and its fans. That's "America's Team". It sounds like a rhetorical question, right? Who is this great American team, from a great American city, that symbolizes our great American way? If they insist on labeling a sports franchise as "America's Team", then they need to get it right. It's such an easy answer... There is a team that represents all of the above, has a patriotic name, a red, white and blue logo and even shares its home with the Statue of Liberty. I agree that "America's Team" is a ridiculous title but it's almost too perfect of a fit for the only franchise that I believe is worthy of this honor: The New York Yankees
"Billy, you are hired!"

Re: Open Thread: 9.16.07 vs NYY
Well, it was a great game with an outcome that sucked. JD was his usual self tonight, and when ya look back he had some chances. We couldnt ask for more than bases loaded vs. Rivera in the 9th with Papi up, he just didnt get it done, it happens. You cant argue with a 3 game series w /the MFY and they only gain one game out of it. If Tito "im not getting extended" Francona wouldn't have mis- managed that game Friday, we would have taken 2 of 3. I gotta be honest, I think he left Schilling in one batter too many last night even with the low pitch count. and again I will say, all this w/out Manny.
