Beckett
Francis
(9-0, 2.88)
(5-5, 3.81)

It has come to this: best two of out three. The Sox grabbed the first game but that seems like ages ago after last night's blowout loss. Tonight it's up to "Mr. Perfect," Josh Beckett who looks to go 10-0 on the season. Beckett is 5-0 with a 3.48 ERA while at Fenway this season. He has a 2.79 ERA in night games.

Youngster Jeff Francis opposes Beckett tonight for the Rox. Francis has been all around strong in his fourth season in the big leagues. He started the season with a 1-4 record but as the Rockies continued to get hot, so did he winning four decisions in a row. Some of Francis' stats:

Francis
- June: 1-1, 3.21 era
- Pitched at least seven innings in each start since April 27 (5.1 IP)
- Night: 4.07 era
- Away: 2-2, 3.09 era
- Has never faced the Red Sox
Righties are hitting better this season against Francis than lefties, so JD Drew may sit and we could see Wily Mo Pena in right field. Dustin Pedroia should be back in the lineup.
