Curt Schilling starts a Blog

Needless to say, Curt Schilling's new blog -- 38 Pitches -- is going to be amazing to read this season.

Here's a snippet:

So we're into the fourth inning, and the inevitable happens. I start Cuddyer off with a curve ball-strike one. My thought as the pitch is being called is, "OK, anything but a fastball here." Tek puts down fastball in, I shake no. Tek puts it down again, which means he feels great about the pitch. At this point the ONLY thing to do is commit to the pitch and throw it as I called it or step off. I do neither. Mentally I think no, but physically I nod yes. In the middle of my windup I'm thinking, "OK, you idiot, why the hell are you throwing this pitch?" About ten seconds later, when the ball lands over the left-field wall, I'm dropping words I'd put soap in my kids' mouths for saying.

Tito is strolling out now, and my outing ends on a misplaced, CRUSHED fastball.

I hope the media doesn't bash Curt for this; he doesn't deserve it. I love how real he is. He doesn't pretend to be a stuck up guy who is better than everyone else. If he wants to start a blog, he's going to start a blog and say whatever he wants.

Curt is a real inspiration. I wish more baseball players -- AND people -- were like him in this world.

[editor's note, by Randy Booth] Well, the media is already on Schill's tail (thanks to Beth from Cursed to First)

Should be interesting to read, but I'm a little nervous about this ... it's probably only a matter of time before he says something that's either critical of a teammate or taken the wrong way, and then there's bad blood in the clubhouse ... this blog could be interesting, but it's also another opportunity to say the wrong thing.

I hope he has a good editor who's taking out anything inflammatory.

Curt Schilling on the Sox F.O. on his own blog:
I have no hard feelings at all with this ownership, great group of people committed to the team, the fans and the city. They've been awesome with me since day one and I have never said anything to the contrary.

The contract will work itself out one way or another, either way things will work themselves out, they always do.

One thing I like about Curt is that he's a pretty grounded guy.

"You know you're having a bad day when the fifth inning rolls around and they drag the warning track." - Mike Flanagan, Baltimore Orioles pitcher, 1992.

Yeah I read the first real entry about ST, have to agree that it is really interesting to see a ST game and then read an inside take about what happened (like which balls were done on purpose, you know that pitchers do this to get hitters to chase, but without the pitcher actually saying so you have no idea which one were actually purposeful and which ones were simply lack of control)

And already in the comments to his post there are people saying "shut down this website, just do what you do best, pitch" which I really don't get, if I guy likes to spend free time writing a blog, let him do so, it's not like anyone is bashing someone else for whatever hobby they have, and people saying to comments are hypocrits, because the same can be said about them, "stop wasting time commenting on other's blogs and just stick to what you do best, that being whatever your job is."

There's a whole article I think that Bill Simmons linked to so I would blab on about it (especially considering this is a red sox blog, not a boston media) but some writers feel like because they went threw schooling and training to finally get to the point where they are writing for a newspaper that they feel like only journalist should be read and that random bloggers haven't earned the credentials to stand in their league, it real gets annoying that they bash blogger (some flat out saying blog are killing the once noble journalism industry, just scroll down to the "Oh, I Get It: Bloggers Are Homeless People"), especially if it's someone famous enough to attract significant readership, because of this

Re: Curt Schilling starts a Blog
The quality of writing and analysis I see from most journalists these days makes me hope that blogs do kill the journalism industry.

Of course, the problem is more serious outside of sportswriting...
