Who the hell is the first base coach? Is it Luis Alicea? Two major blunders, one by Pedroia and one by Youk, trying to turn singles into doubles. Ridiculous.

Someone who's played a bit of ball might be able to tell me: was it the runner's decision in both cases, or should the 1B coach be holding them?

Just my opinion, but in Youkilis's case I think the 1B coach should've held him, and in Pedroia's he should have the choice simply because they were completely different game situations.

I want to say that when the ball is hit to right field, it is the hitters decision on whether to tkae the extra bag, because the ball is in front of him. When the ball is hit to left, it is the 1st base coach's decision.

As for Youk, I don't know. I think typically they take off as soon as the ball passes the bag, and the speed at which these plays develop make me think it is the runner's decision. This particular throw took an unlucky hop, and Youk was out by a mile.

We sucked it today. 10 strikeouts, only 2xbh off Gil Meche and Peralta!
Whoever saw the game, how did Schill look? The 5K's look okay, but the rest is brutal.

To be honest, Schill didn't look good or comfortable the entire way. Of the Ks I saw, they were patented Schill. Get ahead, then depending on the count, go with the high fastball or splitter to finish them off. He kept trying to throw his curveball and it just wasn't there. The few changeups made it look as though that could be an effective pitch for him. Not sure he and Tek were on the same page as far as the proper count/situation for him to throw it.
