Short Random Notes.

  • Salt on our wounds: Check the newsfeed lately? I enjoyed this one. Ramirez talks to wall. Apparently Manny and Hanley are cut from the same cloth.
  • Eric Wilbur thinks the talks about Helton aren't dead. I agree, and I also hate to agree with one of the main points of his article. If Delcarmen were from say, Boise, Idaho, would there be such a reluctance on the FO and fanbase parts to trade him? He's spot on with that, even if he and I disagree from time to time. I still think Delcarmen at least somewhat puts it together this season.
  • CHB wrote an article and I didn't want to vomit. The not vomiting part is probably news enough.
  • 32 year old CF coming off a career season? $50M. Finding out he's implicated in a PED ring? Priceless. There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's stupidity.
  • Heyman on Lester. I would think fans would recognize him and stay, especially after a lead-in like Matsuzaka. Heyman on Joe Morgan:
Joe Morgan, who heads the new committee, defended the record of all shutouts, saying, "We're blamed because something hasn't happened. If you're asking me, "Do we lower our standards to get more people in? My answer would be no."                                            That response should come as no surprise to those who know, have met or dealt with Morgan, who's exactly the sort who thinks he's better than anyone else.
FJM should be happy with this ready-made material. Honestly, I don't neccessarily disagree with the Veteran's Comittee's (in)decision. But this is the kind of quote that a broadcaster should try to avoid.
  • That's all. I recapped the game below.

Re: Short Random Notes.
I actually liked the CHB article--I feel odd saying that--it had good quotes and didn't take an editorial position. It was actually decent journalism. Take note CHB: I don't care what you think. Stick to facts and quotes, and you actually do a decent job.

I found this tidbit informative:

"They say I look better in center field. I just have to get better in all three positions because last year I played all three and this year is going to be the same thing. That's why I work with DeMarlo [Hale] on defense. I want to get better in right and left field, but center is more easy for me."

"He's done a great job working at it," said manager Terry Francona. "He stays after every day and works with DeMarlo, and his attitude toward getting better has been awesome. And that's what we want him to do. He overthrew a few cutoff men today, but he knows it."

Did you know there's a blog set up to critique CHB's columns? It's not a site I'm going to visit regularly, but I'm amused by its existence. It's like a minor-league FJM.

Had not seen that blog, SD.

As far as CHB is concerned, when he puts his mind to it he knows what he's doing. And it would certainly be impossible to say that he  doesn't get attention. No such thing as negative publicity, right?

Re: Short Random Notes.
I came across a blog the other day that I really like. It's by Rob Bradford, the guy who writes for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune and who recently wrote great stories on Beckett and Pedroia. I recommend it.

Just my two cents. Keep the change.

Here's Bradford's story on Manny which came out yesterday.

Re: Short Random Notes.
Bradford's blog is great stuff. He even answered my question about whether we'd see Wakefield in 2008 (no reason why not, "unless he is hindered by a substantial physical ailment", "but ask again in four months").
Vote for Pedroia

Re: Short Random Notes.
Yeah, I've seen that site it's pretty amusing. Apparently teh site creator got tired of spending so much time doing it that he was ready to call it quits and others loved doing the site so much they jumped at the opportunity to take over running the site instead of letting to shut down. Also, apparently people working for CHB actually view and comment on the site regularly trying to seem like "impartial readers" that actually enjoy CHB
