Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.

Bad case of the Mondays?

I'll make this simple, as I'm narcissistically hoping you'll all read my post below and answer the questions yourself.  What's the best baseball movie around?

If this degenerates into a discussion of the relative merits of Bull Durham v. The Natural v. Major League...well.  Just keep it as entertaining as the movies themselves.

As good as Bull Durham is, it's Major League that I keep coming back to.

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
Both of the above are great, The Natural (IMO) is in a class by it self.... Original Bad News Bears is not too shabby either!

Fever Pitch. Not even so much for the movie itself, but how can you not love a story that ends with the Sox winning the World Series?

In case you're having trouble...
This is handy.

Given how many of these films are absolutely terrible (and I mean terrible - misty eyed, nostalgic dreck), I vote for The Naked Gun, which tangentially counts as a baseball movie... "It's Enrico Palazzo!"

Vote for Pedroia

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
"Eight men out" great movie that re-accounts the Black Sox Scandal, not so much humorous like all the other movies people are mentioning though

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
Best ever has got to be The Sandlot

In the next tier is Major League, Rookie of the Year, Field of Dreams. Personally I hate Bull Durham. Susan Sarandon is a dirty old whore

Agreed
Sandlot is the classic that everyone needs to watch over and over again.  Awesome movie

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
Yes the Sandlot it is with Major league a very close second.
If you disagree you are seriously killing smalls.

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
I for some reason forgot about the Sandlot, though I remembered it after a similar discussion at work this afternoon.

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
"Susan Sarandon is a ..."

Really? I've got mad respect for her.

Favorite - Major League
Honorable mention - Eight Men Out, Fear Strikes Out, Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, Pride of the Yankees, Bad News Bears (haven't seen the remake yet, but I'm looking forward to it, especially if Billy Bob conjures any of his Bad Santa magic...)

The worst - Major League II. I actually think I saw this stinker in the theater. Total crap.

Just my two cents. Keep the change.

Susan Sarandon can take her crappy acting, catchers mitt face and large sweater puppies elsewhere

Major League II is not the worst
It can't be. Major League III: Back to the Minors was even worse.

Re: Major League II is not the worst
Never heard of it. But the title alone suggests certain depths previously uncharted...
Just my two cents. Keep the change.

Scott Bakula, Corbin Bernsen, Dennis Haysbert, and the Minnesota Twins organization instead of the Indians.

It is to wish for cinematic narcolepsy.

Bull Durham is a chick-flick disguised as a sports movie.

My emmy goes to Sandlot.  Honorable mention to:  The Rookie, Field of Dreams, and Bad New Bears I.

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
Field of Dreams with The Rookie and Eight Men Out close runners up. Its been years since I saw Bull Durham; must not have made that favorable of an impression on me.

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
I forgot about The Rookie, that was a decently-good movie (if "decently-good" counts as a word)

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
I'd even count it as two words, but then again I'm generous.

The Jimmy Piersall story staring Anthony Perkins.  One slightly unbalanced guy portrayed by another...pure magic.

Fear Strikes Out. Great movie.
Just my two cents. Keep the change.

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
That's right, Tommy's got it.  It was based on the book Fear Strikes Out.  I wasn't sure if the movie had the same title, if I wasn't so lazy I could've just googled it before posting.

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
OK, nobody has said it yet, but it features Ken Griffey, Jr., the Big Unit (complete with mullet), Lou Pinella, Pudge Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro and others. Who's got it?

Woohoo.  Little Big League.  For that matter, I was also partial to Rookie of the Year once upon a time.

Re: Question of the Day, 5 February 2007.
I'd have to go with Major League (though the second one was terrible), but the Sandlot and the Natural are awesome too. Honorable mention to Rookie of the Year, which I loved when I was about ten. :)
KEEP MANNY!
