Pedro says he's clean -- unlike Clemens

Pedro Martinez said he's proud to have been clean while pitching in the steroid era:

"When a report reveals that close to 100 players were using steroids, I thank God that I've always pitched clean," Martinez said in an interview in Spanish with the Dominican newspaper Listin Diario. Martinez was in Santo Domingo Thursday to receive a plaque recognizing his baseball accomplishments, part of an awards ceremony for the Dominican winter baseball season.

"Even when I felt pain in my arm, I got on the mound and pitched in that condition. I was a dominant pitcher in the steroids era," said Martinez. "That was a difficult period for pitchers and it makes me happy that all I have done in baseball has been clean. No one can question me."

Good ol', Pedro. I know his last couple seasons haven't been that great, but I really wish he was still a Sox. His character alone would warrant him staying in Boston. I guess we don't have Pedro now, but we're always going to remember those amazing games and even more amazing quotes:

"I don't believe in damn curses. Wake up the damn Bambino and have me face him. Maybe I'll drill him in the ass."

I'm glad to know that Pedro is clean. If he used steroids or anything, a lot of the Pedro charm of yesteryear would have been gone. Allen said learning Mo Vaughn used steroids was big (and I agree), but Pedro would have been worse.

If he was clean against how many guy who were not?...hes that much more remarkable. I hope we sign him next off-season to take Schill or Wake's spot.

Pedro can stay in NY. I hated how he trashed the Sox after he left - I "get" bad breakups, I've had some but geez what a baby.  I am not knocking his pitching ability overall but he never beat the MFY when it mattered.
