So the Yanks just offered up Hughes and Cabrera plus at least one other prospect.
I'm happy with this trade for Santana as a Twins guy but Sox, come on give it up already.
I say this because if I were a Red Sox fan thinking about the unbelievable combo of Santana, Beckett, Dice K, (yes, in that order) against ANYONE I would be ecstatic. If the Twins would rather have Ellsbury, Buchholz, Lowry, and a pitching prospect the Red Sox would be crazy to not offer it. I'm not even saying this because I want the Twins to get more for Santana. Of course that would be nice but more than anything I see this. That starting trio would be unstoppable. Probably the most intimidating thing I've ever heard of.
I hear a lot of talk about how Santana isn't worth it, he's not worth mortgaging the future for. Well news flash, you're the Red Sox. You're one step below the Yanks for payroll and you could find a way to replace Buchholz and Ellsbury in a heartbeat. In fact, with Santana consider Buchholz replaced and the dropoff to Coco isn't that big of a deal when you consider the rest of your offense. Honestly, I might be happier if the Yankees get him because the rest of their pitching doesn't equal yours. Then the Twins could still have a shot in a year or two. However I think giving up a couple young studs for Santana puts the sox in an extremely solid position to be a dynasty for the rest of this decade.
We're all a bunch of wanna be GM's on these blogs anyhow but please, I'm just trying to show you that yes, getting Santana would put you in an insanely elite class above everyone. I'm talking Patriots of the MLB for at least 2 or 3 years if not 4(I don't know where a lot of your other guys are as far as free agency that's why I don't know how long it would last). Please just think about it then comment on this because I'm curious to see if you really think about what you're not only getting for your team but holding back from the Yankees and decide if you wouldn't be willing to give up at least one of the two (Buchholz, Ellsbury).
