Don't sign A-Rod!

Clap-clap clap-clap-clap.

Do we need to get a petition together?

Star-divide

I know there's already a diary on this, but I wanted to include a poll that reflects my sentiments.

Re: Don't sign A-Rod!
The Sox can't sign that annoying guy who cuts you off on the highway while on his cell phone. He's already under contract to the MFY.

Re: Don't sign A-Rod!
And last I heard the Yanks aren't exersizing that option cuz they found someone that fulfills that purpose and more, "that guy who cuts you off while on the cell phone, then looks at you like it was your fault that he almost ran into you"

Re: Don't sign A-Rod!
Wait a minute -- I thought that was a player option, not a team option, and A-Rod already opted out!

Re: Don't sign A-Rod!
I think a Castro signing would be quite apropos for the Sox. It helps them reach out to the student population that buys Che Guevera shirts, one of the few untapped revenue streams. They can hoist banners across Fenway saying "The AL East is Red." Larry Lucchino could call a press conference, take off his shoes (in the process revealing his Red Socks) and bang them against the table while denouncing Yankee Imperialism. They could even get access to Cuban baseball players, without the trouble of them defecting. This move would also pave the way for favorable relations between Red Sox Nation and the Chinese government.

Re: Don't sign A-Rod!
Well, with the light shined that boras and a-rod arent talking to any team that isnt prepared to offer at least 350 million dollars, iv pretty much changed my mind on a-rod. The team that signs him for 10 years is setting themselves up for terrible grief. A-rod is trying to hold baseball hostage, and all teams should just pass on the 350mil 10 year deal until arod and boras are willing to come back to earth.

Re: Don't sign A-Rod!
I think Boras is trying to set up a posting system for free agents -- that $350M is for the right to negotiate with A-Rod, because he thinks A-Rod is seven times as valuable as Dice-K, for whom the Sox paid $51M for negotiating rights. The contract will also be about $350M, so the total price tag is around $700M.

For that, I hope the MFY re-sign him. We wouldn't see them back in the playoffs for a generation.

Re: Don't sign A-Rod!
gotta figure that dice-k, clemens, and soriano has caused this....I really hope this backfires on boras/arod

Re: Don't sign A-Rod!
Boras has this idea that ARod generates more revenue for a team because he's such a media fixation.  There is some truth in that, but I don't think it's $350M worth.  Also, I know baseball teams are businesses, but if you had two players that you could sign for the same money, but player X would generate more revenue while player Y would win more games, who would you sign?

As fans, we would say player Y, but I think for baseball owners it might come down to "how much more money?"  I think in the long run, an owner who isn't perceived to be putting the success of his team over other considerations is going to lose a lot of potential revenue.
