Open Thread: ALCS Game Seven - Indians @ Red Sox, 8:00 p.m. EST

It's down to this. Game seven in Fenway Park with the series completely knotted up. For the Sox, it's Daisuke Matsuzaka in the biggest game of his life. Which Dice-K is going to show up? Let's hope we see the very best of him tonight. For the Tribe it's Jake Westbrook. Can he duplicate his last start? Let's hope not.

Red Sox lineup:

1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B 2. Kevin Youkilis, 1B 3. David Ortiz, DH 4. Manny Ramirez, LF 5. Mike Lowell, 3B 6. J.D. Drew, RF 7. Jason Varitek, C 8. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF 9. Julio Lugo, SS

Indians lineup:
1. Grady Sizemore, CF 2. Asdrubal Cabrera, 2B 3. Travis Hafner, DH 4. Victor Martinez, C 5. Ryan Garko, 1B 6. Jhonny Peralta, SS 7. Kenny Lofton, LF 8. Franklin Gutierrez, RF 9. Casey Blake, 3B

For those of you who are the praying types:

http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ml-redsox&tid=23077 5

Our Father, who art at Fenway...
Baseball be thy game. Thy Kingdom come,
Playoffs need to be won,
On Earth, then on to the Cask 'n Flagon.

Give us this day a perfect Papi,
And forgive us our losses,
As we forgive those,
Like Bill Buckner.

And lead us not into desperation,
But deliver us from any losses.
For thine is the Power,
And the Glory,
To beat the Indians,
Forever and ever.... and yes, the Yankees still suck.

Amen.

Re: Using best lineup
This is the Red Sox best lineup. We have to hope they can do some damage against Westbrook. Maybe the Sox can get him out early and go against Indians relievers for 4 to 5 innings. There is hope.

Not likely - another inning like that and we'll see the hook.

In hindsight, I think throwing Paps for a clean inning in the 8th with Sizemore-Cabrera-Hafner due (and Martinez waiting) might've been the way to go. He even could've stayed on for Martinez and/or Garko for the 9th and let MDC or Timlin pick up the save.

Re: Bullpen.
Even if it hadn't been Papelbon, the Sox supposedly had a "full bullpen".  The one thing you should absolutely not do is leave somebody in for longer than they normally pitch.

Re: Bullpen.
Agreed.  Hell, it's Beckett's "throw" day anyway, have him throw the 8th and then finish his session in the cage while Paps works the 9th.

It feels extreme, maybe, but could've worked out really well, and wouldn't ha've have been asking Beckett a lot.

Near as I can tell, Oki only went more than two innings once this year.  Damn stupid time to do it now.  Timlin or MDC, or going to Paps for two innings from the get-go would've made so much more sense.  I don't say this often, but that was a dumb move.

Tip of my cap to the Tribe, GREAT team they have. Nothing at all to be ashamed of. If the Sox weren't in it, I would have been cheering for Kenny to get his ring, but it wasn't to be. The Tribe will be back, and as Wedge said, next time; with post season experience. All that said, I love all of you here at OTM...AL CHAMPS!!!!! Ive never been so happy to be wrong, as I didnt think wed come back against this team.  BRING ON THE ROX!!!!

Re: Open Thread: ALCS Game Seven - Indians @ Red S
They're rioting here in Keene, N.H. Pepper balls were shot into the crowd. Some really pissed off college students...

Where's NG?
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Re: Where's NG?
Hehe. We won't see NG, I'm guessing, until/if we lose a game or two to the Rocks.

Re: Where's NG?
Are you kidding? The first pitch Beckett throws that doesn't go for an out, NG will start moaning that it's all over, we might as well give up and start planning for next year!

Q: What's the definition of insanity?

A: Doing the exact same thing the exact same way over and over and over again, and expecting a different outcome.
