Quote from the Chronicle-Telegram
This is the quote from reporter Scott Petrak that I was referring to earlier:

This Indians team is better than the Red Sox and will prove it once and for all in cramped Fenway Park. Sure, a home-field celebration would've been nice, but silencing Red Sox Nation in its house will be just as sweet.

"The champagne tastes just as good on the road as it does at home," first baseman Ryan Garko said.

Re: I have to think
I wouldn't say that for sure. That's what I think would've happened, though I think any good CF could've made that play (and Ellsbury with a bit better positioning might've done it too).

But with experience, I think you get learn to weigh the risks in those situations. Do you remember the Adam Stern diving catch last season to save Paps' save with the bases loaded (and I think save his no runs allowed streak as well)? Tito said afterward, basically, that they told him in the future to play a ball like that on a hop.

They just crossed out Schilling's 3-0 post season numbers and replaced it with 4-0. Except those aren't his post season numbers. IIRC he's 10-2.

It's kinda douchey to do that to the Injuns with 2 innings left.

Great Job Tonight!! If we win the series,we earned it. From everything Ive seen and read it sppears the Indians got a big head about em. Garko's comments were stupid. I can't believe the Indians team shop are selling AL Champions gear (as of two days ago).  Its not over, we still may lose, but I do not think Cleveland will defeat Colorado in the even they move on past this round.

LOFTON! You let me down!
I was just saying how you'd learned to play the Wall!

Kenny Lofton
does not understand simple physics. What, does he think the ball will hit the wall and fall directly to the bottom of the wall like it's made of JELL-O?

by sdkramer.otm on Oct 20, 2007 11:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Re: Kenny Lofton
He's lucky that he doesn't have to deal with the Wall the way Williams and Yaz did... when there was just the sheet metal bounces vs. the I-beam bounces.

Make that 12-2
Well at least Borowski doesn't have to worry about a blown save.

Re: Open Thread: ALCS Game 6 Indians @ Red Sox
#1. I don't see why you don't do this if you're the Yankees.

Santana, Hughes, Pettitte (I actually think he comes back, though I don't think that's the "conventional" wisdom right now), (Anyone), Chamberlain is a good rotation. The two youngsters might be limited use until OR in the playoffs, but it's a rotation that gets you to the playoffs.

#2. I don't see why you do this if you're the Twins.

Wang, who is terrible on turf IIRC, Melky (who is a great 4th OF, a great defensive CF, AND ended this season with a .327 OBP), and IPK who is a good SP prospect, but is clearly third fiddle to Hughes and Joba.

They're pitching Borowski now...
... so they don't have to use him tomorrow.

Maybe Tito should bring in Gagne for the same reason.

OK, if Drew can come alive so can Gagne. If the first batter gets on Francona should pull him; can't risk another implosion.

Re: Open Thread: ALCS Game 6 Indians @ Red Sox
OK, what are the odds in the top of the 9th:

a) Gagne sets them down in order;

b) Gagne gives up 2 hits;

c) Gagne gives up 3 runs;

d) Gagne pitches only 1/3 of the inning.
