Helton Deal Dead (for now)

Stay connected for news and updates

As Allen has insinuated, the Helton deal is dead. You can read about it here, courtesy of the Boston Globe.

There were a number of curious developments during the trade talks. It was rumored that this was a power struggle between Epstein and Lucchino (again), with Lucchino pushing for Helton. Lucchino is more fond of star-power than Epstein, but, personally, I don't believe it. "Seemingly drained and disappointed at not landing Helton, Epstein gave only a "no comment" in response to the ending of the talks last night."-Nick Carfardo

The Red Sox were also not pleased that the Rockies leaked Lowell's & Tavarez's names as pieces of the deal, and the Sox may need to smooth ruffled feathers. I bet the Rockies did it intentionally to put extra incentive on closing the deal.

The Globe's Nick Carfardo believes that talks may resurface during spring training.
