Notes

  • Some people have apparently gone way overboard in their reactions to Gordon Edes' controversial article about Manny Ramirez. Edes understandably doesn't like it, and barks back.
  • Jon Lester has successfully completed his first cycle of chemotherapy and is now resting at home in Seattle.
  • Toronto would move into second place in the AL East with a win today.
  • Coco's finger surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.
  • Wake has a 9.72 ERA in his two starts since returning from the DL.

Re: Open Thread: 9.25.06 at Toronto
It looks like no one is interested any longer and I can't blame them.  It's obvious that the players themselves don't give a damn.  I can't remember being this frustrated with a Red Sox team.  This team is much better than what we're getting, and with a professional franchise, it's unacceptable to just throw in the towel. This isn't a bunch of 12 year old little leaugers tired of playing for the summer.  Francona is lucky I'm not the owner of this team because what I'm seeing is unaceptable, and I hold the manager responsible to get top game out his players, which is not even close to happening here.  After tonight the Bosox drop to third place.  There is no way they should have ever dropped out of the wild card race.  I can name 10 teams who have less to play for who are playing 10 levels above the performance were seeing from the Red Sox right now, and to again use the excuse of injuries is a laugh.  Like every team hasn't had its share of injuries.  Face it, the team quit like it doesn't matter.  And for one I can say I care.  I just hope someone in the front office does and someone rolls for this!!!!!

Personally, I'm not disinterested. I'm just working 80 hours a week and I'm not around a computer much.

The Sox got 2 hits tonight. One from Cora, the other from Hinske. They lost 5-0 after Wakefield gave up two home runs.

The Sox slipped to 3rd in the East.

As tough as this season has been, I imagine the folks in Chisox country are having it tougher ... to go from winning the whole thing to not even making the playoffs has got to be hard, especially when you can't point to a slew of late season injuries to blame ...

Re: Open Thread: 9.25.06 at Toronto
I'm gonna have to go with Edes here. I think calling his home to react on an article that one might not have agreed with, is way overboard. You might not agree with what he has to say but there are other means of expressing your disappointment. This website, for one, entitles people to express themselves. And other sports enthusiasts, who might or might not share your opinion, can react to what you have to say. You can communicate with others who might be as passionate about the issue. But don't call a reporter's home. I agree with Edes; it's still only sports. Don't make it personal.
