Andruw Jones placed on waivers

From mlbtraderumors.com via bleed cubbie blue:

the braves have apparently put andruw jones on waivers. i find this very interesting. if they drop their asking price to not include lester, and if no NL team or a team with a worse record is able to work a deal for him, i say the sox should make a run at him again.

what say ye?

by "the braves have apparently put...", it should probably be noted, i mean that mlbtraderumors.com are reporting it. that doesn't exactly mean dead-on accuracy all the time. they do, however, have a quote from buster olney discussing the situation.
What do I think about Hatchet Face Tavarez? Put a Milo on him!

Re: Andruw Jones placed on waivers
Depends on what prospects the Braves want. At this point, they can have Hansen -- he'll walk as soon as his contract is up and hasn't shown much yet -- but not Delcarmen, Lester, Pedroia, or Ellsbury. Hansen, Crisp, and a low prospect (Alvarez? Van Buren?) for Jones would be a good deal.

Re: Andruw Jones placed on waivers
You have to give Hansen some more time. You can't just jump on his back like that and say he'll absolutely be gone once his contract is up. Yes, it's Scott Boras, but we got Hansen in the first place without much a problem, so if the Sox wanted to resign him it could probably happen.

Hansen is untouchable STILL.

Re: Andruw Jones placed on waivers
I know you have to give him some time, but he will go to the highest bidder and there's a better than even chance that won't be the Sox. So if we can get Jones, the premier defensive centerfielder in the game today and an offensive force, for Hansen, Crisp, and a low prospect, that's a deal I'd take.

Re: Andruw Jones placed on waivers
I, too, would take it in a heartbeat. And that's despite the fact that I believe Coco will be a lot better next year once he's had some serious time off to recover from his injury and get back in the swing of things, and that Hansen will most likely be a very good closer for some team within the next couple of years and that we might be able to re-sign him.

Andruw Jones is just that good. His fielding skills are obvious to all, and so are his hitting skills. Imagine a 3-4-5 in the lineup reading Papi-Manny-Andruw... I could just about kill for that.

Re: Andruw Jones placed on waivers
How 'bout a 3-4-5-6 of Papi, Manny, A Jones, and Wily Mo?  I don't think Jones will be moved.  A lot of teams put players on waivers and never trade them.  I'd love to see the Sox get him, though, provided they don't give up too much.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Re: Andruw Jones placed on waivers
For next year, how about a lineup of:

Youk
Lorretta/Pedroia
Papi
Manny
Jones
Wily Mo
Lowell
Tek
Gonzales/Pedroia

Solid defense (except for Wily Mo -- he scares me in right field) and one of the most dangerous offensive lineups I've ever seen.

That said, I think you're right. The Braves are just waiving Jones in case somebody offers them something ridiculous, like if the Cardinals lost their minds and offered Pujols and Carpenter (and both had also cleared waivers). Of course, I also wouldn't be surprised if a contender with deep pockets and need for an outfielder claimed Jones. I'm sure the Braves would withdraw the waiver then, but even if they didn't, the claiming team would only be stuck with the big contract for the rest of the season; they could probably trade Jones in the offseason, and in the meanwhile they'd have a pretty good rental outfielder.

Re: Andruw Jones placed on waivers
I think we should leave our pitching staff ontouchable. We got a young Coco Crisp who hasn't done his best yet.

Hansen
The trick with Boras' clients is to lock them up with extensions prior to their contract year. The Sox can get it done w/ Hansen if they want to. He hasn't shown enough yet to pull in a huge payday.
