Theo says ...

Theo had a press conference a few minutes ago.  He said the Sox came close on a number of deals.

Star-divide

The FO has a long-term plan and it would have been short-sighted to sacrifice that plan for what Theo called an "incremental improvement" over the final two months of the season.  Ultimately, none of the deals were worth it.  The Sox didn't want to get "emotional" and "reactive" because of what other teams were doing.

There's always the waiver wire.  He wants to keep an approach the team has followed the last three years.  The FO wants to build a team that wins 95-100 games every year, not just one year.

Re: Theo says ...
At least Theo didn't budge and move the young guns. That was his plan from the get-go, so he did a good job.

Re: Theo says ...
Yup.  There wasn't much out there, so why trade just to make a trade?
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Re: Theo says ...
Agreed, just because the Yankees went out and traded for the HR derby winner from last year (which they try to do almost every year) to shore up their lineup doesn't mean the Sox need to go crazy and throw away the future when they've already got a better lineup (statistically) than NYY and better pitching to boot.  It hurts to lose Trot's lefthanded bat at this point in the season but the Sox's weakness is absolutely not run production.  A big splashy deal for Andruw Jones might sell newspapers but its not worth it if we have to give up quality arms for him.

Re: Theo says ...
Still, so much anticipation it sucks to come up empty. It's probably for the best though. What we need now is another 12-game streak to lift the spirits. Okay, I'll settle for 4 or 5 games.
