In what world does this equal this? Dave Littlefield's world of unicorns and gnomes, of course.

In other words, if Dave Littlefield wants Victor Martinez for Mike Gonzalez, I don't want to know what he might really want from us.

Could Aaron Heilman be prised from the Mets? They certainly under-used him last season. Would they have a use for Coco? I'd suggest Moises Alou doesn't have many more games in the tank.

I like Heilman, and I think he could be a terrific pitcher in the Papelbon mode... saving games for the next season and moving into the rotation full-time the season after.

Of course, the talk now is all about how Papelbon will actually move back to the bullpen as the Red Sox make a move for Clemens.

Yup, you're right DD. But perhaps dangling the carrot of 'closer' is more appealing than his current position on the Mets depth chart as set-up man.

I'm in NY so I watch Heilman. He doesn't look like someone that would make the transition to the AL that well. If he had the great stuff that the scouts say he does, the Mets would have made him into a starter when all their starters were hurt during the season.

I would guess he'd certainly be willing to give the closer role a try. I'm inclined to agree with our friend Relaunch, however, in that he seems a prime candidate for the "overrated" tag.

IIRC, his strength is his changeup, so would he simply be another Foulke? ...but possibly slightly less talented? I don't know.
