Open Thread: 10.01.06 vs Baltimore

[It's still not decided, I think, whether or not this game will be played today because of the rain. I'll throw up the OT nevertheless, just in case...]

Starting Pitchers

Baltimore: Hayden Penn (0-3), 13.76 ERA, 2.53 WHIP.
Boston: Devern Hansack (0-1), 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP.

Starting Lineups

Baltimore:

  1. Brian Roberts, 2B
  2. Corey Patterson, CF
  3. Melvin Mora, 3B
  4. Miguel Tejada, DH
  5. Fernando Tatis, LF
  6. Chris Gomez, 1B
  7. David Newhan, RF
  8. Brandon Fahey, SS
  9. Raul Chavez, C
Boston:
  1. Trot Nixon, RF
  2. Loretta 4
  3. David Ortiz, DH
  4. Mike Lowell, 3B
  5. Jason Varitek, C
  6. Hinske, LF
  7. Wily Mo Pena, RF
  8. Gabe Kapler, CF
  9. Alex Cora, SS
Notes
  • Hayden Penn's 2.5+ WHIP is impressively bad. I bet the Oriole fans are like Ron Burgundy when Baxter ate a whole wheel of cheese - they're not even mad because it's so amazing.
  • That's it for the OT's this year. The activity in them has been very fun to both behold and be a part of. Thanks all around. Let's hope next season brings more August-October OT-enthusiasm.

It's moot now ...
No matter what happens, the Sox finish in third.  Toronto beat the MFY.  Oh well, at least the Avon Lady won't win the AL batting title.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Trot Nixon ....
In what is likely his last game as a member of the Red Sox, singles to lead-off the bottom of the first.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Anyone else get that feeling Mikey would homer there?

Sox lead it 3-0 after Lowell puts one into the Monster. Good times.

Re: Open Thread: 10.01.06 vs Baltimore
By the way, Hansack has a no hitter through 4. And Kap had a bases clearing double, Loretta a solo shot, and Carlos an RBI walk.

Sox lead 8-0, Mirabelli's replaced Papi as the DH.

Re: Open Thread: 10.01.06 vs Baltimore
5 Ks for Hansack now, through 4.2. Looking real sharp, his only blemish is lone walk thus far.

Re: Open Thread: 10.01.06 vs Baltimore
Murphy is in for Nixon, who went 1 for 3 with a run scored in what was most likely his last game as a member of the Sox.

Re: Open Thread: 10.01.06 vs Baltimore
And the no hitter continues through 5. Pedroia has replaced Loretta, batting second and playing second.

Re: Open Thread: 10.01.06 vs Baltimore
Wouldn't it be the saddest thing for the Red Sox to see Trot go? Who would ever forget the dedictaion he showed to his team, and the passion he so abundantly exerts for baseball. I think it's time to get sentimental. It's a sad fact that once injured, there is a greater chance that it's all downhill from there. Let's just take the time to relive the most memorable moments of Trot Nixon. Being on the disabled list, yet attending the games to show all-out support for his team. Even going out of his way to defend a wrong call (Gabe Kapler's homer) on his teammate. And getting kicked out of the game for that too. Did I mention that he was on the disabled list that time? A special sportsman I must say. Maybe he could coach. What do you think?
